For Pomona College, i had not seen the Supplemental School Report that must be sent. My counselor already sent in the Common App Secondary School Report earlier along with my transcripts, but i didn't tell him about this Supplemental School Report that Pomona requires. Now we're off on winter vacation and i cant hand this form to my counselor to send in. I emailed him about the matter, and he wants to deal with this form after school resumes, which is a week after the deadline. Is sending this Supplemental School Report after the deadline going to be a problem? Any suggestions to what i should do?

You should call admissions.

I’d like if you would post whatever answer you get here, because I’m in the same boat as you are–apparently both this and a signature (+optional photo) page are required, but I was only able to turn in the signature page, and neither form really covers anything that the Common App/online forms don’t.

When following this topic in two previous admissions cycles, I noticed that the admissions office eventually contacts students who are missing this piece, to remind them to submit it. It is required, yes, but I think they are rather used to it arriving late in some cases. If you’re really worried, I would just send an email to admissions explaining that your counselor is unavailable over the break, and will send the form as soon as school resumes.

Well. I just found out about this from this thread.

It really bothers me that multiple schools have supplements not on the Common App that are poorly publicized! Now I’m in exactly the same position as you. I guess I’ll just have to do it ASAP once school resumes… but I really wish that they would at least put this info somewhere on the Common App…

I think that’s for people who are applying by paper, rather than the Common App, I wouldn’t worry about if your school has already sent out a form with the necessary information.

Over, you might want to research before posting. It’s a required form. But like Faux said, I’m pretty sure they’re used to having it arrive late. It almost seems like a “did you read through our website?” type thing.

Has anyone called the admissions office and gotten to statement that if the Signatures and/or Supplemental School Report are mailed in AFTER the deadline, that it won’t be considered late?

Also, side note, but would anyone be willing to read my supplemental essay for Pomona?

I just checked the website

under FAQ:

What is the Secondary School Report Supplement? Do I need to submit the Secondary School Report Supplement to Pomona if my high school has its own disciplinary report or policy?

Yes. The Required School Report Supplement is a separate form requested in addition to the Common Application School Report. The information solicited on the School Report Supplement is required and the form must be completed for an application to be considered complete, regardless if a disciplinary report is submitted by an applicant’s high school. Applicants who do not have this form completed by their high school college advisor/guidance counselor will receive an incomplete notification and will not have their application reviewed.

It seems to me that they wont even look at your application if you don’t include this form. I am in the same position as everyone else here. I don’t understand why such an important form would not be explicitly noted somewhere on the common app. I am freaking out.

Pomona sends you an email shortly after you apply regarding the status of your application. If you’re missing a form, it says it there and you are given the opportunity to mail in the missing form. I don’t think its worth freaking out over.

Oh, sry for the late response guys. I called Pomona before it closed for Christmas. They said they have a short time frame 1-2 weeks after the deadline where they still accept other forms, such as Rec Letters and School Reports. They said they understand that these forms aren’t entirely under the control of the applicant, so sending them in a little after the deadline is acceptable.

So that’s pretty much what they told me.

Thanks guys.
Ugh, I cannot wait for this process to be OVER.

Thanks mare!

aem–haha, I know, right!!!
:)

Sorry to kinda hijack this thread but since we are on the topic of secondary school reports, do you guys think that it’s ok if my school sent in their own secondary school report rather than the common app one?

I forgot to ask my college counselor what the deal was with that form…

^I’m applying myself so I’m not exactly authoritative on this matter, but I think the counselor does need to send the Common Application school report in the Common App format (and he/she should know that, since the Common Application is so, well, common). Either way, if the Common Application lists the counselor school report as ‘incomplete’ (yellow) by this time (the deadline being in less than a week), I’d contact the counselor. If it’s complete, then I wouldn’t worry.
As for the Pomona school supplement (in additon to the Common App school report), that also must conform to the form offered on the Pomona website (and I think must be mailed), though it’s very brief and asks basic questions like “how many AP classes does your school offer?”.

Thank you so much for this.

My kids went to a private prep school where the counselors did not complete the whole common app counselor recommendation form, but attached their own letter. It works just fine, as far as I know. For Pomona, though, they were very careful to make sure all applicants submitted the counselor form that’s specific to the college. It is not optional.

This is the first I found out about the supplement, thanks. So frustrating how there was no notice in the common app or anything.

@Nuclear: Same here. And I don’t go back to school until the 10th so it makes me even more worried…

Ouch, I at least get back on the 3rd.

Does anyone know if they have a deadline for sending in SAT scores?
