Pomona? USC? UCs? Stanford? Swarthmore? (Will chance back :))

Ok...My school does gpa very weirdly so I recalculated it using the UC gpa way...

Anyways
Unweighted UC Gpa: 3.95
Capped Weighted: 4.32
Uncapped: 4.68

(This doesn't include freshman yr where I had two or three B's...if you included it my gpa would probably be around 3.9)

School does not rank...

SAT 1: 2350 (CR: 750, W: 800, M: 800) One Sitting, Superscore 2400
SAT 2: Math: 800 Chem: 800 Bio: 800
National Merit Semifinalist (don't remember actual score though)
National AP Scholar or whatever....

AP Scores: Micro:5 Macro:5 Chem:5 World History:5 Bio: 5 USH: 5 Calc BC: 5 APES: 5 (self study)

Always had honors math, spanish, english, and science courses before AP classes
Had spanish all four yrs
3-4 APs planned senior yr

Extras:
Volunteer at hospital, senior home, and brother's school for autistic children
Tutoring freshman in math
Robotics
Spanish Club (aslo planning to run for president)--Have won 1 award for poetry in my region
Featured Columnist at major sports website for spanish and portuguese soccer
Science Research--one small regional award (Planning to submit to Intel next yr)
President and Founder of Puzzle Club
Interning at local hospital over the summer

Less Involved ECs:
Debate Club: Only went to competitions in freshman and sophomore yrs, so I don't know if I should mention this
NHS: Just got in based on grades, but never really cared about it so I might not mention it

Race: Middle Eastern/Asian
Gender: Female
School: Very competitive, small private (20-30% to ivies and stanford each yr, about 50-60% of class gets into berkeley)

In State Colleges:
Stanford Early Action (I already know this is a super high reach)
Pomona College (ED 2)
UC Davis, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD
Scripps
Claremont McKenna
USC

Out of State Colleges:
Swarthmore
UPenn
Georgetown
WUSTL
NU
Princeton (I already know this is super high reach as well)
Columbia (Same as above I think)

You can’t apply early to both Pomona and Stanford, as Stanford’s Early Action is restrictive. You’d have to apply to just Stanford early if you wanted to, and leave Pomona for regular, or vice versa if Pomona’s your #1 choice. That being said, I think you’re in at the UC’s, Scripps, USC, Swarthmore, Georgetown, and Case Western. Stanford, Princeton and Columbia are reaches for everyone, and Pomona, CMC, UPenn, and WUSTL are matches.

Good shots at all the UCs, USC, Scripps, Pomona, and Claremont Mckenna. Also good chances at Swarthmore, Georgetown, and Northwestern. Stanford and the IVYs along with WashU are reaches. I say WashU is a reach because I know a few kids from my school with applications similar to yours who were rejected.

also, could you chance me back? thanks :)

would this person make it into berkely, just curios becasue my UC gpa is a 3.8 and i wanted to know if i had a shot

A 3.8 UC GPA is a tad low. However, one must also take into account the rigor of one’s schedule, class rank if available, test scores, extracurriculars, and essays.

bumppppppppp

I think that you have a chance at all of those schools. Places like Stanford are hard to predict, but you’re definitely qualified.

You have a chance at all of them. Obviously schools like Princeton, Stanford, and Columbia are never sure things, but I think you have a legitimate chance of getting into at least one of them. Chance me back??? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1370997-what-schools-can-i-get-into.html</a></p>

thanks!!! bump!!!

I think you have a good chance at all of those schools. The SAT scores are certainly there. However, Stanford is certainly a reach for everyone - getting into the very top schools is almost random. Some will accept you and others will deny you. The only thing I see, is you may want some EC’s that are less academically related. The hospital is good, but consider some other work.

would you mind chancing me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1374363-please-chance-new-cc-user.html</a></p>

Pomona rejected our 2370 valedictorian with perfect SAT II’s and national awards in HOSA, writing, and Spanish. She got accepted to Williams with a Tyng Scholarship (extremely competitive), Stanford, Yale, Dartmouth, and Princeton. I think they’re one of those schools that cares far more about the fit of the student in relationship with their profile, so you should convey that in the essays you write. I’d say Pomona, Stanford, Princeton, and Columbia will all be reaches, with Pomona being a low reach (as it is for everyone) to Stanford being a high reach (as it is for everyone).

Claremont McKenna is also insanely competitive these days. The school seems to do the same thing as Pomona in seeking out the best fits for its schools rather than just the most qualified folks. I’d put it as a low reach as well.

Match for UPenn, Swarthmore, WUSTL, and NU. In at Scripps, all the UCs, USC, and Georgetown.

all of your academics look good and your ECs but i think in your essays and if you get and interview with these collees to definately display a passion for something, especially stanford because its so competitive there, a 2350 is the same as a 2400 and a 4.0 is the same as a 4.9… theyre looking for the right fit, if you do that id say you have a 20-30% chance at stanford , but remember any ivy/mit/caltech are reaches for anybody there no “perfect” fit so dont be discouraged, i know kids from my school accepted to MIT purely off of her passion for dancing, she had no super awesome award from Siemens or an award for being some math prolific, for schools like these its all subjective. please chance me back ? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1373471-chance-me-mit-ivies-will-sports-help-mit.html</a></p>

thanks for the chance guys…i guess i shouldn’t get too attached to pomona as my chances seem very slim…

Your chances are better than a typical applicant, actually. What I meant was that a school that has a 12% acceptance rate and a 20% early acceptance rate isn’t a match school for anyone. Don’t be discouraged! You’re a great applicant!

ah i see…thanks :)

do you think it would make a difference if i applied ed1 instead of ed2 to pomona?

No, cause you’re committing either way.

Well… At least that’s what I think.

oh okay so ill stick with my plan…thanks

bumppppppppppppppppp
