Pop Culture of our childhoods

Beanie Babies? Oh someone beat me to it :P

@runaday see that’s how I was different. I never wanted to be an astronaut.
@niquii Yeah I still watched Nickelodeon and Kids WB-just not disney channel

Monopoly is my favorite game. My friend and I used to play it /every day/ after school.

^^^Me and my dad and sister started a game of monopoly when I was 6 and it literally stayed untouched in the garage for two years

I have bought Monopoly soo many times. When I was younger I always lost the game (as in I couldn’t find it) and so I ended up buying it a bunch of times.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

Alright, I’m going to list every show I watched when I was a kid. This is going to be extensive.

Arthur, Wishbone, ZOOM, Between the Lions, Gullah Gullah Island, Allegra’s Window, Little Bear, Franklin, Cyberchase, The Puzzle Place, Pappyland, Magic School Bus, Reading Rainbow, Mister Roger’s Neighborhood, Anne of Green Gables: The Series, Barney, Seasame Street, Blue’s Clues, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Bill Nye the Science Guy, The Big Comfy Couch, The Busy World of Richard Scarry, PB&J Otter, Out of the Box, Rolie Polie Olie, Kratt’s Creatures, Zaboomafoo, The Powerpuff Girls, Winnie the Pooh, Care Bears, Shining Time Station, Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sister Sister, Lizzie McGuire, Kim Possible, Even Stevens, Braceface, The Proud Family, That’s So Raven, Phil of the Future, Recess, American Dragon: Jake Long, So Weird, House of Mouse, Bug Juice.

That’s all I can think of. Clearly I needed a TV intervention as a child.

I loved House of Mouse. And the Proud Family, and Kim Possinle, and the Emporer’s new groove.
(i hate how this is all coming back to me now)

Remember how Disney XD used to be Jetix and Toon Disney…good times

Someone once told me the grass is much greener on the other side.

I remember it was revolutionary that the characters in As Told by Ginger wore different clothes in every episode xD

I remember Kids WB, golden age Cartoon Network, and Toon Disney. Now it’s CW4KIDS, current Cartoon Network, and Disney XD.

After school we would watch Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Jackie Chan Adventures, and Static Shock.

Nintendo 64!!! I remember my brother teaching me how to play it and he’d get frustrated when I tried to move the controller to drive and I used to think how cool it’d be if they’d make something where you had to move the controller to play. Now when I teach my sister (6), she has to move the controller to play, lol. Weird. I told her that when I was her age we didn’t have Wiis, iPods, or iPhones, she asked me if I was really that old. Lol. Now I’m just rambling,

OMG. iluvbooks94, you were a community leader? I always wanted to be one on VMK! I was obsessed with that game… I loved collecting costumes and playing falling chairs haha. I was so disappointed when it shut down. I played Putt Putt, Pajama Sam, and Freddie Fish on the computer. I loved playing with hot wheels (lol I was a tomboy I guess) and I always wanted a tamagatchi (sp?). Bop-it was my favorite toy! I loved watching Zoom!, Out of the Box, PB&J Otter, Dragon Tales, Kenan and Kel, Legends of the Hidden Tenple, Guts, and the list goes on. I miss the days when Bob Barker hosted The Price Is Right. I remember I tried playing Runescape but failed miserably lol. Wearing chokers and snap bracelets were considered cool in elementary school. I had Powerpuff Girls shirts, underwear, school supplies, you name it. Oh and I remember there was a time where everyone wore gauchos (those flowy pants) and I really wanted them but never got em. I collected stick-on earrings even though my ears were pierced… I could keep going but I’ll stop here for now haha.

Tama-freakin’-gotchi’s, man.

And, Bratz, “Dragon Tales”, Easy Bake Ovens (I just bought the newest one, sadly), etc.

But, mainly, Tamagotchi’s. I still have six/seven of mine (read: I just got done playing with one until the batteries died out. Again.).

Yes I was! I was so freaking excited when I was accepted, I immediately went to find my VMK friends and tell them. I was so disappointed when they did away with CLs before the site closed.

I’d just like to point out how popular Lisa Frank was among me and my friends. We had a Lisa Frank club.

All my school supplies were Lisa Frank. :D

Floam!! I always wanted that stuff so badly.

I’ll be a sophomore so I was like 10 when Webkinz first got popular…oh so much fun! I’ve been longing to buy one just to be able to play all the games on that haha…and Club Penguin was a great website. My friends and I would always type “I’m Hannah Montana” or some celebrity to get the other penguins to come by us, lol. Millsberry was fun as well. Can’t believe they shut that down!!

Limited Too (before they changed it to Justice) was the cool place to shop lol, and there was a time when I was 8ish maybe when gauchos were soo popular.

I never got into Tamagotchis but I loved SkipIts and those circle things you sat on and could spin around in…anyone remember those? American Girl Dolls were awesome too, and Polly Pockets. I had a freaking Polly Pocket waterpark set. Woo hoo! And I was like 10ish when Wiis first came out so that was pretty dang exciting haha.

I heard the song Switch by Will Smith today and it brought back some memories…what were some other good songs? The Now CDs were good as well…and I always hated Kidz Bop.

Kool-Aid Jammers and Little Debbie Snacks were an integral part of my school lunches, though my mom wasn’t a cool mom and only bought them once in awhile. Other amazing foods were Baby Bottle Bops (Baby Bottle Pops, Baby Bottle Pops, you can munch it, and crunch it…and I don’t remember the rest lol), Wonderballs, Fruit Gushers, Push Pops, Gogurt, HiC, Bubble Tape, those little cracker packs with a few crackers, a plastic spreading stick then fake cheese at the top, Trix Yogurt and Fruit by the Foot.

TV wise I always wanted to be slimed and go to the Nickolodean Hotel in Orlando that they’d always show in commercials…

The Walt Disney World commercials. Ugh, those things made me want to go SO BAD. Just watching old Disney VHS tapes and seeing all the old advertisements and promos at the beginning. Makes me so nostalgic.

I still play MASH and I have no shame.
