How bad does it seems if I use a pop culture example instead of a history example? It would probably be Buffy or Veronica Mars, but I think I'd be able to make it work. I would still do a personal example and a literary one.

Would it effect my score if it was effective?

:( anyone agree or disagree?

I don't think the type of example matters, as long as you argue it well. I would still use a history example before a pop culture reference.

Just remember, the audience for your essays is probably a bunch of old teachers; they might not get the reference. Just stick with history/literature and you'll be fine.

Glucose, I cited examples from "I Am Sam" and the book "The Devil Wears Prada," and I got a 12. If you can make a good case for your argument by using pop culture references, why not?
