Portable research grant

Anybody get this letter? What are you doing for the application - what research are you proposing?

I got the letter as well... I haven't decided a proposal yet. My potential major would be Neuroscience or Brain & Cognitive Science, so I'm probably going to head in the research direction for one of those interests. Spending time abroad during a summer would be so amazing though, even though I really don't think I could cite any special qualifications for that. : )

Lauren - Yeah, the abroad thing was the first to come to my mind - I guess we'll have to come up with research that can only be done overseas! My hand writing stinks, do you think we could attach a typed page? My intended major is physics - lots to think about for research.

Haha, yeah I think an attached document would work well. The space provided isn't very big, so I'll probably end up attaching my information.

Thanks - let me know how you're doing with this - looks like we don't have much time!

hey- i have pretty much the same questions. how detailed do you think they're expecting this proposal to be? i know which area i'd like to study (neuro here too!) but i don't really have any clue as to what specific research i'd like to pursue. ohh boy, more applications :)

Do you have to offically accept admission in order to apply for the grant? I won't know some of my admissions decisions until after the deadline

i received the letter! i'm not really sure what it's all about i didn't really read it very thoroughly the first time through but we're a special 10%... GO US!

Also rec'd it...gotta think quick about a proposal.

controller123, you don't have to accept the offer of admission before applying for the Portable Research Grant. By the way, congrats to all of you who have been selected.

got it too....no clue what to do either :-S

just got it too =) im so krunk for this. i actually have an idea, but i have no idea whether or not ill still want to do it in a few years. if we get the grant, do we have to use it for what we put?

Can we share the proposed project with... a math or english teacher? I am not too fond of my science (physics) teacher =(.

My D won a Portable Research Grant last year so I can answer your question, jocool---

You are not unalterably bound/committed to your proposed project in case you change your mind.

whoa, didn't see the deadline of march 25...yikes!

^unreal deadline.....i waited 6 months for them....and they give me 2wks...humph

Zwankie--AFAIK any one of your teachers can sign the grant application. (What are they gonna do--call the teacher up and grill them about it?) Don't tell anyone, but D's wasn't signed by Bio teacher--he was out of town since the school was on spring break. Her music teacher actually signed her application because he was the only teacher of hers she find on short notice.

thanks WOWM. just curious... D=daughter?

Gotta do what it takes for the $$$. Not alot of room to write so I don't think it will take too long to do, that is once you decide what the heck you're going to write!

D=daughter.

My D is a freshman at UR with a double BS major in math and neuroscience--and is mostly happy there. (Mostly--only because she hates the winter weather and misses green chile and the sunny skies of the Southwest. But UR has been very, very good to her: lots of attention & lots of opportunities. She received a Gen last year, also a PRG.)
