I'm a rising junior and I'm not sure what i want to major in yet so i was thinking i should apply undecided. I know that in many schools, students begin their concentration(major) their sophomore year. But the arts dept. start freshman year. If I decide to major in the arts/design my sophomore year of college, do i have to submit a portfolio? Will it be too late to join because the students already got a head start?

You are a jr so you have some time.

Applying to any arts college typically will require a portfolio/audition. The process is the same no matter when you apply. Your sophmore year wont be too late, but I would recomend you make this decision in the next year or so. It will just be easier than applying to some other college them moving.

Generally speaking its easy to move from one major to another within the same college provided you do it before your soph year. Moving between colleges, or changing majors after soph year, may extend your stay.

i’m not thinking of applying to art schools bc i want to get a real university feel and i want to have the option of switching majors without transferring to a different school
