Possibility of getting my acceptance revoked?!?!

I was accepted early action into UVA’s school of engineering. However, a couple of weeks before my acceptance, I dropped AP Chemistry because the stress caused more health issues on top of my other health issues (I was hospitalized a couple of weeks ago for the 5th time in the span of four years) so I decided to drop AP chemistry two weeks ago, which was BEFORE I got accepted into UVA and before the first semester ended. Mid-year reports will be sent soon and I will receive an F on my transcript in AP Chemistry because that is my county’s dropping policy.

Is there a possibility that my acceptance could be rescinded? I have all A’s in my other AP classes and I dropped it because I wanted to prioritize my health and listened to the advice of my doctors, I did not drop it because of senioritis or petty reasons and I certainly did not fail the class (I had a high grade in the class previously). Thank you for your opinions, I’m extremely worried.

I don’t think so – they probably didn’t admit you just because of one course. However, you should really have contacted the admission officer once you had dropped AP chemistry.

I thought my counselor contacted the admissions officer but he has not which gave me a panic attack. Should I send my area’s admission’s officer an e-mail explaining why I dropped it, or wait for my counselor to contact him? @skywalker11

Sending an email to your admission’s officer won’t hurt, but an information important as this would sound so much better in the voice of your counselor. Don’t panic, it’s just ONE course. And if you had great stats, it probably won’t make that much of a difference. As you mentioned and as it appears, it’s definetely not seniorities or anything like that, so the admission’s office should understand the circumstances.

Thank you for your advice! It just scares me because the course is not expunged from my transcript, but it shows up as an F which decreases my class rank (I was in the top 5% before I dropped the class). Hopefully UVA will understand that it was an incredibly difficult decision for me to make but my health is most important. @skywalker11

I understand that you are scared – any hardworking student would be. UVA is an amazing school, and I bet they will understand!

UVA has a very strong honor code. Your reaching out to them before they see the scores from the school will demonstrate your honesty and good intent.

I don’t have any first hand knowledge. However, I would guess that the people who are in danger of having their admission revoked would be: a) students who face serious criminal charges or behavioral issues, particularly if they involve violence, or b) students who decide to emphasize partying during their senior year and stop taking their school work seriously. I don’t think academic difficulties in a single difficult course would cause a revocation, particularly if you provide a written explanation in advance. (Many years ago, during my senior year before starting at UVa, I had a great deal of trouble handling an AP-level chemistry class…)
