Possibility of Getting off Waitlist?

D was waitlisted and W&L....just wondering if there is a chance? Not sure if W&L would be a good match. Just wondering what others think. I have looked at past history and know that 2011 had few offered spot off WL but 2010 had quite a few...so it seems sort of random. I should mention she is low income and not sure if that would effect her receiving an offer.

D has chosen a great school but I was just wondering if she might be offered a spot (to be prepared).

Most of the movement off the waitlist at any school is the kids who don’t need FA.

I have read that is not necessarily the case with W&L…I think I saw a posting once of someone who was offered that needed FA and received it…was just hoping someone who had personal knowledge of this (themselves or acquaintance) might know.

More just wondering about probability of getting offered spot off WL.

I did call office to ask this question about FA but had to leave message…so I imagine I will hear back from them tomorrow and at least know about that to decide if it is worth remaining on WL.

I called admissions and they said the need for FA would have no bearing on WL applicants being offered a place off of the WL because they are need-blind. They would let you know if FA was or was not available if they were going to offer you a place from the WL.

I got off of the wait list today and i honestly can’t believe it… shocked :D

tennisgal, you were called off WL today at W&L? Wow, they aren’t even waiting until after May 1st? Congratulations!!!

yes i did! thank you very much i am very excited  i hope your daughter gets off too!!

According to the table in the New York Times, W&L has 2,001 applicants on the WL. That’s over a third of its applicants.

Tennisgalpr…so happy for you! I think after thinking about if further…we are going to remove D from WL. She has committed to Case Western and realistically, Case is a better fit for her and offer her better options since she wants to be an engineer.

W&L would cover financial need 100% and offer probably better options academically for D’s Minor, Asian Studies/Mandarin. But I think the Geek in D is winning out!

It is just hard when I knew she could be loan free if she got in to W&L vs. taking out some loans at Case…but I know she has made the best decision for herself.

So glad you got accepted though, think W&L sounds like a great school!

harley: where is this table??

blue poodle: Thank you so much! Case is a great school as well and I am sure she would be happy and successful at both! If you decide to stay on the W&L wait list i suggest you get in contact with W&L and make it very clear that you would go if accepted. I emailed and wrote my regional rep and definitely think that is important at a small school like W&L. They want people that want them. I was wait listed at 5 schools (W&L being the hardest) and still can’t believe I will be going there next year! Good luck!!!

The NYT has an online section entitled, “The Choice.” Search for that on the NYT website, and then you can find the article on 2012 Admissions Decisions, which was published about 2 weeks ago. The article includes a table with stats for a bunch of schools, including W&L.
