So far I've heard back from three schools, and so far - three waitlists.
And I'm just left wondering why waitlists and not rejects or accepts.
I want to think it's just because I didn't turn in one of the required forms (Midyear Report), but I doubt that would be a very big factor.

Any ideas for why all the waitlists?
Anything I can do to get off?

You can go back to my history to see at my stats.

were you waitlisted at JHU? I don’t understand because there were so many qualified (I’m talking the extra stuff, not numbers) who got waitlisted :(. Oh well. They would have contacted you about the report if they didn’t get it. Them not having contacted is a bit strange.

Part of the reason is demographics. The class of '09 is the largest in history; more students than ever, competing for the same number of spots. My daughter has gotten 2 WL’s from schools she should have gotten into easily. One of the schools said that there were 5000 apps for 500 spots. This is a decent liberal arts college, not a top university or Ivy League school, it’s got a 10% acceptance rate. Just a couple of years ago, only the Stanfords and Harvards had that kind of number.

The way I see it, a WL means that you’re qualified, and the school would like to have you, but they’ve been flooded with applications from a gazillion other qualified students. Jelly, if the Mid-Year report was a problem, they just would have flat rejected you, so that’s probably not it. It’s just that there are too many HS seniors this year. Not a great comfort, I know, but it’s not anything you did.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the WLs though. It MIGHT be that alot of the students who were accepted won’t end up enrolling, due to finances. Parents might be alot more reluctant to take big loans this year because of the uncertain economy. That could mean that more WLs than usual end up getting accepted. Who knows.

“Part of the reason is demographics.”…actually the entire reason…they usually waitlist bc they have enough of whatever demographic group you are applying from; if they end up needing more of that demographic, you will be pulled off the waitlist…

I got waitlisted at Rice and NU also. Like people said before, it’s probably because there are so many qualified students like so applying for so few spots. Now if we were an under represented minority I bet we would be in.

Yeah I got waitlisted at Swarthmore… in the letter, they said they had received many apps from outstanding applicants like me but they had over 5500 apps total, their second highest ever, for a class of 390 students… i would srsly do anything to go there…
