3 waitlists so far...

I could really use some insight into what is going on with my applications. I could deal with the waitlists at WUSTL and UChicago, even though they stung, but I just got waitlisted at Rice, after receiving what's considered the equivalent of a likely letter. In the Vision invite, they even said that very rarely they end up not admitting someone that they sent the invitation to, but as far as I know, I haven't been arrested, and my grades haven't gone down at all. I don't understand why they would do that and then waitlist me. :( I'm extremely frustrated with all of this.

Can you have your GC call and find out? maybe there is some kind of misunderstanding.

That’s what I’m going to do in the morning.

Waitlists at Washington U. are rejections; they figure (it seems) that people feel better about the school later if they don’t get outright rejected (and hence won’t say nasty things), but virtually no one ever gets in off the waitlist (or at least that was true several years ago.)

^Yeah, it’s the same now, I wasn’t so worried about WUSTL. The Rice thing is basically the thing that makes me wonder if something is actually wrong with my application.

that is not true. Daughter got off waitlist in 08 but ended up turning down Wash U in the end.

Sometimes there is a mistake in the application; something wrong on the transcript, or misinterpreted… it’s worth having your GC check into, definitely!

My son got waitlisted last year from Rice, although I thought he was a “shoo in”. I always wondered why they did that and I blamed it on the list of colleges he applied to and shared with them. (I hate that question in their application!) I recall that Rice went to their waitlists last year, but we didn’t bother.
