Possible recission

I know that there are dozens of other posts about a potential rescission, however I feel that my case is different and those articles have not been very useful for me.

I recently committed to a top tier engineering school however I received an email that was very stressful to read. It stated that they have received new information was troubling for them and they requested an explanation. This new information was that I received an F in my advisory class during third term. The class is strictly participation based, and there are only 4 assignments per term, which is simply showing up to class. It is used as a work period by most students. I was sick for a week and a half during which the teacher decided to give participation points twice to the students who had gone to class. When I returned to school the teacher was unwilling to offer makeup. Before this I was a straight A student so I am afraid the drop will look bad on me.

The rest of my grades are fine, two B+'s and the rest are A’s. I explained the situation in detail but I am worried that it will not be enough. Does anyone have insight on if I will be rescinded or not? I am very stressed right now as I am writing this.

Involve your Guidance counselor and have him/her check your health record. Usually, the counselor’s notes will be taken into account by the college.

If you were actually sick and got everything excused, it can’t be held against you. Agree on asking the guidance counselor to provide some proof that you were excused, and maybe tell your advisory class teacher the situation.

They requested an explanation, so you should provide the above.

But I’d suggest making it more understandable. Just 4 assignments, which is just showing up…doesn’t make sense. You have an assignment to show up on 4 specific days for the entire quarter?

A teacher just randomly deciding to award more points for 1.5 weeks, out of 8+, when you happen to be sick, also sounds odd.

Failing a class for being sick - you’ll need supporting explanation from someone else - guidance counselor, teacher, administration, etc. to support that story. If completely accurate and supported, the schools should be understanding.
