Scared of getting acceptance rescinded after 2 Fs first semester

I was accepted to umiami with a overall UW 3.75 gpa for spring admission. In the fall, I missed a lot of classes and ended up receiving 3 incompletes due to a health problem. I worked really hard to try to complete all 6 of my classes but ended up with 3Bs 1A and 2Fs. The classes I failed were Incompletes on my mid year report and were in IR and stats. Since they are instruction and discussion based it was extremely hard for me to pass when I missed so much class time. But, they were electives and not needed for graduation.

This semester I recovered and have a 4.0 but I’m terrified that umiami will rescind me. They were aware of the incompletes when they accepted me and that I was going through health issues. But, they don’t know 2 of the incompletes resulted in Fs yet. My overall gpa is going to drop down to roughly a 3.6. Does anyone know what I should do?

They may. But the best thing to do is to prepare you’re arguments (sick, missed classes x amount of days etc) and call admissions officer and explain what happened. Truth is the admissions officer wants you to go now that accepted. But they need a reason to excuse two Fs. Would definitely be better if they were Ds. Could you retake the courses over the summer? But call AO!

Go talk to your HS GC and make a communication plan. I agree you need to give a heads up to the AO before they see the final transcript with 2 Fs. Hopefully your GC can also communicate with the AO about the situation.

I also agree with grace27 about potentially doing credit recovery this summer, perhaps offer that as one solution when approaching Miami. Good luck.

Talk to them. Call them tomorrow morning. The fact that you did so well this semester says that you’re back on track. I’m hoping that since you didn’t need the credits to finish high school, and that since you’ve recovered and done so well this semester (and BTW, kudos to you for bringing those other courses from the fall back up to decent grades), they will just tell you that it’s all right. I really don’t think that they’re going to rescind you over this. It’s not as if you didn’t have a very valid reason, and you are clearly back on track.

I agree with @Mwfan1921 . I suggest letting your guidance counselor be the one who discusses the issue with U Miami. I do not think at this point it’s the best idea for you to try and mediate this yourself.

Thank you for offering your advice! I will ask my counselor to set up a plan. She wrote a message to them for my mid year report letting them know of my extenuating circumstances. So, hopefully she’ll be willing to help again!

Thank you! I’m going to reach out to admissions with the help of my counselor and hopefully they’ll be understanding.

Lots of good advise. I would add that look into asynchronous options online or see if the university offers pre-fall summer classes. I would make a rock solid case but does not look good.
