Possible to get away with something in the mid- to upper-2200 range for HYPSM?

I see most of the CC'ers stats who attend Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, and all the other Ivies and most of them have an SAT score in the 2300 range. Is it possible to get away with something in the 2200 range nowadays? It really doesn't seem like it, but I really hope so.

Short answer: yes.

May you elaborate a little bit more? If you have 2200 on the SAT, do you need to have really really good EC’s?

YES. Yes yes yes yes yes.

Don’t let this super skewed message board distort you from reality. A 2200 is AMAZING.

Harvard’s range is 2070-2350 btw.

A guy w/ a 2400 still needs to have good ECs to get into HYPSM.

A guy w/ a 2200+ may need to have great/awesome ECs.

Where did you find that?

[College Search - Harvard College - SAT®, AP®, CLEP®](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

^ You can’t just add up the numbers. The overall 75th percentile will be lower than the sum of the individual 75th percentile figures, and the overall 25th percentile will be higher than the sum of the individual 25th percentiles.

Good point.

I was just showing what wkndwarrior25 probably used to get the 2070-2350 range.

by the way - sat is a thing that qualifies you for the next round of admissions.
ex. they look: 2300 sat check go to ECs good, essays great okay your in.
ex2. they look: 2000 sat, u.r minority? no. bad luck no hooks REJECTED.
ex3. they look 2150 alright we will see a little more uhh decent ECs, Amazing passion, you’re in.
ex4. 1600 sat. Rejected.

^ You’re oversimplifying the process.

It is an oversimplification, but at least it’s humorous. Lighten up! :)

Relative to the entire population of individuals taking the SAT, yes. When compared to the rest of Harvard’s applicant pool, not so much.

Did you check the results threads? There were a few (not many, but still) individuals who were accepted with sub-2300 scores.

It is definitely possible. Everything else must be very good though. They essay is extremely important. Write a great essay and your chances increase immensely. Keep in mind that the very top schools are a crap shoot for everybody.

@silverturtle what is non-simplify version of this process?

Of course. My asian male friend got into Harvard and Yale with a 2210. Didn’t get into Princeton or Stanford or MIT though, lol

Anything above 2200 is good, though I’d aim for 2300+ to be safe. To be honest, I think any ambitious applicant on College Confidential should be able to get over 2300; with all the resources around (Silverturtle’s guide) all one needs to do is study, which is how I got my 2370.
