I'm an incoming student at the University of Washington and am considering applying for an MFA at Harvard in either fiction writing or acting. What are some qualities that set students apart in the application process other than their quality of work for the audition? What GPA is expected and what kinds of activities should I include on a resume to distinguish myself in the highly selective admissions process? I would like to learn from my mistakes in high school by planning out my education path and school choices in advance. Thanks for any input!

PS would it be better to transfer? UW was not my first choice for a school

Successful transfer applicants are able to articulate clearly defined academic reasons why they want to transfer and must have a proven record of achievement at their current college. That means you’ll need at least a 3.8+ GPA from the University of Washington, which you haven’t even started yet, so you best hit the ground running.

I was not quick enough to add this addendum to my above post: While Harvard has many wonderful opportunities to participate in extracurricular theater productions, they do not grant a degree in theater, theater studies or acting at either the undergraduate or graduate level. If you want acting, you should consider: http://drama.yale.edu/
