So, blatantly put, I never thought I would have to post on this website, but here goes…
I’m coming from a school where the large majority of student body is extremely wealthy, extremely image focused, insecure, and extremely self-centered and stressed out. I personally think the shift in academics is not really going to be the biggest transition and is less so what I’m worried about (I’m a mechanical engineer), but can someone just debrief me on what it is actually like to go here? What the people are like. What the culture is like. True and false stereotypes. Oh, and it would also be helpful if someone who doesn’t particularly associate with party-life could be of help because frat culture is something I really just do not associate with.
Thanks because transferring is easily the hardest decision I’ve made in my life
I would caution you by first saying, if greek life isn’t your thing, Boulder may prove interesting. Where are you currently attending? I’m currently trying to transfer out either to Georgetown, UPenn, or Stanford.
I have spent both long periods of time with friends who are in frats and also long periods of time with friends who only study. No matter where you are, there will always be some form of greek presence, so I will just say that and leave the implications up to you. Frat brothers like to dress the memetic way I need not describe, beautiful girls and guys. Smiles are all around. Boulder is an awesome place, but I guess I always imagined I’d be studying somewhere more competitive on the east coast or west coast. Not that the drug or substance abuse would be any different anywhere else, but the way people go about it would be. Here, it’s very “brooooo…” and in a lot of conversations there is simply a lack of any depth. There is no real challenge to the status quo, it’s just a bunch of happy people hanging out in the mountains.
If you feel like you NEED to transfer, then do so. But be careful of your choice…
