mine gives me the option of picking an ID based on my other info w/o the need for a sponsorship. what does that mean?

ok ok the only reason i wont carry out annesherrys methodology although it maybe valid, is that if u get rejected after seeing something like this...i think ill be absolutely crushed. Lets just wait for the word from stanfordians.

Did sadface enter his ID or "other ways of identification"?

do you think there's any chance doing this will mess my app up?

i honestly don't think stanford is going to be like "ZOMGZ i cannot believz you did that! oober hacker n00bsauce!" ... honestly, this isn't like we are "hacking" rather that we tried to see if our IDs work by putting in personal info. i bet stanford is just doing this to mess with our heads, if anything. has anyone else given it a shot?

Ok this is what I think: This system may or may not be a legitimate indication of the admission decision...but...STOP TRYING TO SEE IF YOU'RE ACCEPTED/REJECTED/DEFERRED VIA THIS WEBSITE!...was that loud enough?

Come on, you guys! We've been waiting months for the decision, you can wait 1 more week! Trust me, it will fly by. Don't use this website thingy to get your hopes up or ruin your confidence.

It's just a waste of time/emotions in my opinion...

word up, manza.

Wait, how was this resolved? I typed in "other info," typed in my name, SSN, etc. and got this as the next page:

"If you are not XXXX, or if you have previously selected or been given a SUNet ID, leave this process now.
I, XXXXX, choose to be identified permanently at Stanford by this SUNet ID:

[3-8 lower-case letters & numbers]
These SUNet IDs are available:
* XXXX
* XXXX
Or enter your choice of SUNet ID (pending availability). Remember that your SUNet ID will be your permanent and visible identifier.
Why is the SUNet ID I want not available?

I, XXXX, agree to:

abide by Stanford's Computer and Network Usage Policy.
never share my SUNet ID password.
never attack or abuse Stanford's computing resources, or use my SUNet ID to attack or abuse non-Stanford computing resources."

Did anyone else get this? Should I have gotten something different?

Also, from the page:

"There are two types of eligibility for a SUNet ID:

* University-eligible. Full-service SUNet IDs are available to current, registered students; and to regular and emeritus faculty and staff, including SLAC staff. Hospital staff are entitled to a base-level SUNet ID."

Admitted students are not registered, current students...

And...

"# Contingent students. Base services will be active as soon as you get your SUNet ID. Full services will be activated within 24 hours of your official acceptance of Stanford's admittance offer."

^exactly what i got... guys calm down. it's just us CCers being neurotically impatient. anyone else who has gotten/not gotten that page?

why is CC rearranging the order of our posts!?

^exactly what i got... guys calm down. it's just us CCers being neurotically impatient. anyone else who has gotten/not gotten that page?

Duh! You'd only have an account if you've matriculated!

did you try phanerothyme?

Guys, let this put everything to rest for sure:

" * Sponsored. Anyone who is not University-eligible who needs to use SUNet resources in support of legitimate University work can be sponsored for a SUNet ID.
o It is the responsibility of the person requesting the SUNet ID to find a sponsor, if one is required.
+ For free services, the sponsor must be regular Stanford faculty or staff.
+ For charged services, the sponsor must have requisitions authority in Oracle Financials for a current Stanford account.
o The sponsor is responsible for ensuring that the sponsored SUNet ID is used in support of the University's mission, and in accordance with the University's policies.
o Sponsorship is for a fixed period, and must be renewed if the SUNet ID is to remain active."

In other words, sadface, just like all of us, is NOT currently enrolled at Stanford. He needs a sponsor, just like everyone else who is not affiliated with the community at this point...

In response to some earlier questions about acceptances being revoked because of checking, here's why I think we'll be fine: when we first received the email telling us how to check our app statuses, the instructions were vague. When we clicked on the link to axess, I know that many people, including myself, entered our ID numbers into the SUNet space, thinking that's what we were supposed to do. It was an honest mistake then, but it's the same thing we are doing now. So, no, we won't be labeled "hackers."

but wait baelor, what does the thing you and i got mean? what does that imply? b/c none of those conditions agree with the ones you posted on the message you got (same as me)

I tried with the number thing, yes. It said it didn't know what I was talking about... But why would Stanford make an account for merely accepted students? This isn't a binding decision, so maybe, for some twisted reason, someone who is accepted might choose not to matriculate at Stanford. SUNet is for students, not accepted applicants.

So I typed in my ID and this is what I got:

"Your ID (XXXXXXXX) is not recognized by the SUNet ID system and is not currently in our database.

The prefix 0XXX in your entry indicates you are a prospective applicant for Fall of 2009. Be advised that this unauthorized login attempt has been registered in our files, and may or may not have an adverse effect on your current admissions standing within the university.

If you have any questions, please contact us using the link at the bottom of the screen."

Ouch.

^HAhAHAhAhAhAhAAHaHAHahahah. ykim918, i hate you. great troll.

Oh crap. ^^^^^

ur not serious are u.
