Possibly dumb question? Required classes to take as an UNDERGRAD?

I apologize if I sound dumb, so I hope you'll forgive me, but I was curious as to what classes undergraduates take?
The school in particular I'm looking at is UCLA.

Whenever I type in something like "Required Classes UCLA Undergraduates" on google, it gives me like "UCLA Admission Requirements".
I don't know if I make any sense, but I was curious as to the typical required classes a college freshman takes. I know there are the typical English, Math classes, but what about required electives or other credits to fufill?

I want to major in pre-med or some other science btw.
Please help! I'm new here but thank you!

English, Math, some sort of history or sociology, sometimes a writing class (as in focus on mechanics and presentation rather than analytical writing), in some schools a “religions and cultures” class, a second language…

You could just go to UCLA’s website and look up their “core curriculum.” That’s if they even have one. They probably do, but some schools don’t.

[UCLA Registrar’s Office: General Education Requirements](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/ge/)
[General Catalog](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog09-10-17.htm)
[Degree Requirements](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog09-10-22.htm)

On the college’s website, go to the section dealing with academics.

There will be a link to the information about what the general education/core curriculum courses are for the school as a whole–these are the classes that all students need to take. Most students take these classes during their first year or two on campus. A lot students place out of someof the requirements with AP tests.

Then look up some of the majors you are interested in studying. The curriculum for each major specifies what courses you must take to complete that course of study.

Most students start with one or two courses in their intended major, and some gen ed courses, their first few semesters on campus.

I’d just like to point out to the OP that “pre-med” is not a major. If you are pre-med, then you’ll probably have to take general chemistry, math, and possibly biology freshman year. “Pre-med” is not a major. You can major in ANYTHING you want and be pre-med- heck you could be an English major and be pre-med, so long as you take all the required science courses.

the general education requirements vary from college to college. Someone already gave you a link to UCLA’s requirements. if you’re interested in another college, just go look on their website under the academic information, and core requirements should probably be listed.

If you’re asking about requirements for a specific major, go to that college’s website, and they should have a list of majors/minors and departments. Click “Undergraduate requirements” or whatever for the major and it should be listed. Like if you’re interested in Chemistry, google “UCLA Undergrad Chemistry” and it should come up.

and mollieg is right, preMed is not a major, it’s a handful of courses. I believe the requirements are: 2 bio courses, 2 years of chem (orgo and gen chem), 1 yr physics (I’m assuming calc-based since my gen physics class had lots of students who were premed or studying bio), 1 year english or writing, and I think 1-2 semesters of math. You’re going to need Calc anyway for physics and i guess Statistics might be a good option if you’re only taking 1 calc class. and yeah, you can major in anything you want.
