undergraduate Curriculum/requirements

The course requirements seem to be little bit complicated! (Philosophy major in my case)
so there are 10 general ed classes that we have to take (here)
plus the major requirements [here

But there are also the Writing requirement, Foreign Language requirement, Quantitative Reasoning requirement, etc (that this</a> page](<a href="http://www.philosophy.ucla.edu/index.php/undergraduate-program-/39-undergraduate-category/46-major-requirements%5Dhere%5B/url">http://www.philosophy.ucla.edu/index.php/undergraduate-program-/39-undergraduate-category/46-major-requirements) mentions)are these part of General ed requirements? but then this page says that AP credits cannot satisfy the General Eds however they can satisfy the writing, etc. requirements.

It will be great if somebody give an overview of all these types of requirements, their distinction and explain if they overlap...

thanks in advance!

This is really the type of thing that you would learn at Orientation. If you’re interested now, [this page](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog10-11-21.htm#pgfId-998754) has a lot of the information. The rest of the catalog may also be interesting.

A lot of the requirements do overlap, and for the most part classes satisfying requirements in multiple areas satisfies all of those requirements.
