I assure you that that is not the case at Williams.....these are the students that are indeed the most qualified academically, socially, creatively, artistically and otherwise. Have a spoonful of sugar with your grapes.......

And eventer31590's comment is not sour grapes, it's actually very intuitive and may be very close to the actual intent behind "some," "perhaps not all" of the early-writes sent by the adcom.

Just heard of one case where I know you are right. In this mini round, I think they try to pick up some kids with hooks. The one I know is a fall season athlete with very strong (but not absolutely top) academics. A D3 level athlete, not some walks-on-water kid. Didn't apply anywhere early because of a very busy fall season.

i really don't exactly know why i got an early write- i was pretty certain i'd get accepted, because i have a really strong transcript/AP scores/test scores, and participate in two varsity sports, but i don't really know why i got chosen for an early write.

I got an EW today, and I did not expect this AT ALL!!!. According to Amherst I'm only a "3". So those of you with less than stellar SAT scores, WORK ON THOSE ESSAYS, because for sure that's why got me through.

I've never been more excited in my life (academia wise haha)!!!!

I got an early write on March 9, my birthday! My mom called me after school while I was walking to work. Once she read the first sentence of the letter, I started screaming like a maniac. I'm sure I freaked out just about everyone in a 10 foot radius.

Good luck to all RD applicants who haven't heard yet!

I'm seriously not the most amazing stand-out applicant..I was incredibly suprised to get an early write. My application boasted no huge awards, just honest hard work and passion for what I do. So if youre still waiting to hear from Williams, cheerup!! Be encouraged! its very much attainable.

BTW I don't "fill a demographic that the school needs e.g. female engineers, obscure majors, rural kids, URMs etc."...... Im pretty much normal white girl from the burbs who's incredibly excited to be admitted into WILLIAMS :)

I honestly wasn't expecting a letter so early. I thought I would receive it around the end of March... but yeah... I got in!!! I was really really shocked... I only got a 1290/28... but I'm my crappy school's val, 1st generation, hispanic.... OMG! (INSERT BUTTLOADS OF HAPPINESS HERE!!)
