Post for All Admitted into Penn State - University Park

Admitted to Smeal Business. Everyone trying to convince me to go to Penn State. I am leaning towards St. John's in Queens where I got a fairly generous scholarship. My stats are 3.8 GPA, took honors and AP all four years of high school. Low scoring SATs (1000). I'm coming from a Catholic H.S. and not sure where I'd fit in better. Penn State didn't blow me away and I feel like I may get lost in the shuffle there. I felt very much at home and very comfortable at St. John's. I also made Seton Hall and Loyola in MD and I'm waiting to hear from University of Maryland (I don't think I'll get into their business program with my SATs). Any thoughts or advice?

JJ87- how much did you get from St. John's? I applied there too.

check status online and it said as of 02/18/05, we've reached a decision. You should expect it in the mail soon. so yup...can't remember what i applied for though...i know chem but i don't remember the other one

i got in too. college of communications. got in back in november. from connecticut.

i got in...wanna know how i found out? so they said to expect the decision in the mail, but i still haven't gotten it in the mail. then i checked my email today and the international student department told me that they've received information that i've been admitted, so if i want a student visa, i have to send in blah blah blah. lol way to go!

psu engineering is one of the best right?

yes, i think 1 in 5 engineers has gone to penn state or something like that? I went to an engineering thing over summer at PSU and it was very impressive

Accepted:
Smeal Business- and the Sapphire Program (apparently some new accelerated program, go abroad soph. year, preferred housing, etc)
From: southeastern PA

Waiting for: Boston College, Boston University, UNC-Chapel Hill, UVa, NYU-Stern, Bucknell, Georgetown, Cornell, and William & Mary

i applied mid november, and heard back about a week later.

JJ87, one of the big misconceptions of PSU is that you will get lost in the shuffle. You have to keep in the mind that eventhough 40,000 students are at PSU, that is basically the only people in State College. You will not believe how small this place feels. Everywhere I go I see someone I recognize. You are a lot more likely to get lost in the shuffle at a city school.

I doubt I'll be going; it's a little large for my taste, but their film program is amazing. I'm glad I was at least accepted.

Accepted from NY
Major: Computer Engineering
Also applied & accepted at: University of Delaware w/Honors & $$, University of Maryland College Park w/Honors & $$.

Accepted from: Phlidelphia, PA
Major: Undecided
Other schools: Still considering Virginia Tech

jj87- i got accepted into smeal also and from st. johns in queens. st.johns basically gave me a free ride but im leaning towards syracuse unviersity and their business school. a lot of people have been urging me to go to smeal since its very nicely ranked but im probably gonna go to syracuse.

Accepted from: NJ
Major: Marketing (but would double with Economics)
Other Schools: UMD College park (scholars), Fairfield University, JMU and.. Virginia Tech (where I'm 99.9% sure I'm going)

Great - good luck at Syracuse. I already accepted Penn State's offer. I weighed it against my other offers and Smeal is definitely the better business school. Brand new business school opens in July and ranked right behind some of the best in the country. I decided against St. John's mainly because of the housing situation.
