Post Human Geography Scores Here Please

On this years test, and what grade are you in? You don't think 3 is bad for a freshman right lol? And I took the 2006 exam for practice.

yea the MC was really random
and def too many questions on Canada

but you managed to get a 5!
and answer to my previous question?

Oh, I got a 1 as fresman, but I just finished sophomore year. :)

Is it worth self-studying for it junior year?

Did you take the class seriously as a Freshman?

i took it as a senior just for a BS class, i never studied at all or anything, got a 5 easily.

So how bad is my 3 as a Freshman?

^ It really depends. It is an OK score. There seems to be differences of opinion w/r/t how AP scores are viewed by the adcoms. Let's assume they are considered - a 3 strikes me as a grade that will neither help or hurt you, especially if it is a mere blip in an otherwise good application. If you plan to make a habit of 3s, then this 3 wont matter either way.

Are you planning on taking more AP classes in the future? Are you willing to work harder?

We are going through this same issue here. My d got a 5 in human geo, but only a 3 in Euro. That was a disappointment, but euro is a much harder course, and I think she can see that she really didn't give it as much work as she should have done. She found HG pretty easy, and said that the MC section is merely a matter of knowing a lot of terms. Studying for it was well within her range of work habits. Euro clearly required more work, and she didn't have the work habits to pull it off. Only she can decide what sort of student she will be in the rest of her high school days. She has her heart set on a good college, so she needs to work harder. Her choice! Your choice, too.

Sorry to sound like such a parent!

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(.............................................. I worked really hard, this exam was just utter crap, ask your son, I got a 5 on all the practice exams, plus I'm a freshman :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( Obiously your wrong it will help me later on :(

I got straight A's in the class, so I guess I did take it seriously. On the other hand, he teacher's idea of homework was coloring maps. I hated him, but everyone loved because of his humor. First teach, then entertain, if at all. At least he's now gone.

^^ What do you mean when you say your got 5s on the practice test? How did you score the essay part (whatever they call it...) It seems to me that you have no real way of knowing. You only know what you did on the MC section. I suspect you might have over estimated your ability to answer the long answers.

My d thought the test was pretty easy. There was one essay question that she could not answer because she did not know what they were asking about. Later she did some research and found that she did know what they were talking about, but knew it by a different name. Her classmates looked through several books, and no one used the term that the AP test used.

.... For a freshman, the MC were asking a lot of history we have not learned yet in 9th grade, they asked some random questions this year, they asked a bunch on Canada. I'm guessing your child was older, and that's why your child knew the history involved in the questions. I bought for $60 the 2006 exam, I had my teacher grade it in a tutoring section I got a five on it. For me this test aske to many random questions, and did not cover many important topics that were in the Barrons Book. I am a freshman so I do not know all the American and World History involved, or the Canada questions. I aced all the FRQ'S except the one your child had trouble with, and plus I know a lot of top notch colleges don't except it, and if they do they except a 5, but a University near me like University of Florida gives credit for it, and it didn't matter if I got a 3,4,5 I still get the same amount of credits in college 3 credits in Geography, so your logic of a 3 being so bad is wrong....... I got a 5 on the 2006 exam because the questions were so much better than the 2008 exam.
AND I'M SORRY YOUR CHILD IS ONE IN THE FEW, BUT EVERYONE I KNOW AND SAID THIS YEAR EXAM is harder than previous year exams, and totally agree. I don't know much about Canada since I live in the U.S and I had no knowledge of them going to ask that.

what are people estimates on how many mc questions they got right? (what did your score end up being)

A 3...

.

Metal, it seems like you're getting rly upset for nothing. I've been reading this whole thing and it looks as if you're getting mad because people aren't giving you the answers you want. I'm sorry, but they're telling you great advice. A 3 is passing I got 2 3s this year, but also got 2 4s and a 5. There's no point at getting angry about it. It's not necessary you send in this grade and most schools don't accept credit for HG anyways. I'm sorry you're disappointed, but I know how you feel. I got 5s on every mock AP stats exam I took (bout 5) and got a 3 on the actual thing. There's nothing I can do and I still got a 5 on calc. Therefore, I should be happy because I got a higher score on a higher-leveled exam (which is how colleges look at it). HG isn't considered a high AP class, actually it's considered pretty low, so I would just look toward the future and just don't worry so much.

I actually may sound angry, but I am not angry at all. But thank you for your answer. But I am a bit disappointed obviously.....

I am/was (whatever) a senior and majoring in geography next year at UGA. I got a 5 on the exam.

I got a 3 last year with literally zero studying..didn't even buy a prep book

i agree with meatwad, MC was total randomness...
not sure what i got yet
but for practice FRQs collegeboards site has them released with a grading key.
helped me a lot on the frqs in my opinion.
