My kid got Will Rice. Where is the old list of o-week themes that jenskate posted?

yay for jones people

I'm also wondering about RemedyRabbit's questions.

Hanszen parent weighing in- my D had a quad in "new section" as a freshman. That quad was great. Last year's (soph) room in "old section" wasn't so hot. There were 4 girls in a tiny space. One freaked out by October and moved off-campus. I thought the room was really pretty awful. D says the doubles in old section are fine, but the quads are bad. The bathrooms are bearable- not great but no real problems. The common areas in Hanszen are really nice.

D says the climate control in Hanszen is bad- rooms are too cold. The air can either be on or off and it is automatically switched to heat at 60 degrees. I will say that she did survive both years nicely, and loves her friends at Hanszen. She is moving off campus this year and looking forward to it. She went to boarding school for her last two years of high school and is "dormed out".

Does anyone know more about Wiess?

wrprice....you say baker/will rice/hanszen has some singles?
does hanszen?
i never heard about that.

Remedyrabbit-
I sent you a PM. As for rooms, if I recall, you could put on your roommate application form whether you wanted one or more roommates. If you put that you wanted two or more roommates, you'll probably be in a quad. (suite), and probably in the "new" section. If you put that you wanted only one roommate, chances are that you will end up in the "old" section, in a double. The rooms were fine. Reasonable size. Not huge, but plenty adequate. They (my s and his roommate) had their beds lofted over their desks, which left plenty of room for the full entertainment center they set up (tv, PS2, XBox, etc). The bathrooms are on the hall. You do share with a few more folks than if you were in a suite (one bathroom connecting two suites) but I didn't hear any complaints from my son, with the exception that one of the girls bathrooms seemed to have the nasty habit of causing the breaker switch to flip if too many were using their hair dryers at the same time (I might have the specifics of this mixed up a bit). The suites have their entrance doors in a stairwell-- the doors are in pairs- across from each other and you go up each flight to the next set of doors. In the "old" section you have the traditional dorm style rooms off a long hall. Easy to go down the hall and see your friends. The suites that Momofwildchild described are in the stairwell area at the end of the halls. Study areas are upstairs on the top floor (the weenie loft) and in the commons area above the dining room. Plenty of options. Son loves Hanszen, but will be living off campus next year, not by choice. However, he and his friends found a great duplex and are excited! Hope this helps.
edit forgot to mention-- the a/c is cold. The knob that seems to adjust the temp appears to be just for show :)

nice... kinda funny how i was replying to an earlier question you posted, checked out a different thread, and there you're saying you're at Martel too.

congratulations. welcome to the best college ever. and to all the haters out there, you're just jealous cuz we got the best rooms in the house.

Jones, prepare for another Willy Week of hell. you may have thought some of our jacks were lame, but there's no question that you gave up jacking Martel after we hit you every single night for 6 nights in a row. this is only the beginning.

yes ive thought long and hard and i am so happy about martel. the truth is, punks down at will rice brainwashed me, which is the only reason i had doubts in the first place. will rice will sweep is such a joke, who cares about beer bike when you cant breathe in your own room? i dont know any of the martel sayings though :-( feel free to fill me in on the little martel heritage there is!

sniff danng i wanted to be in will rice too!! [haha o-wknd xP...] but it seems like as of today, all the colleges have had people get their res halls except for sid rich... [i''m guessing that i'm probably going to be there ] maybe my mail's a little slow and im in will rice still?? heh.. WHERE IS MY MAIL?!?! GRRRR!!!

The "usual" arrangements for freshmen vary by college; I'd trust what you read on the Hanszen website. I can only speak for two colleges. [EDIT: Forgive me, didn't realize there was another page before replying.]

At Will Rice, freshmen were pretty much split between "new" and "old" dorm, with the rooms being quad-occupancy suites with double bedrooms or simple double rooms, respectively. No freshman gets a single.

Martel only has suites, but they usually "reserve" the double bedroom suites (vs. single bedroom) for freshmen because rarely do the upperclassmen want such rooms. There's only a few of those, however, so there's still a good chance of freshmen getting a single bedroom.

As for Hanszen singles, yes, they should exist but it's likely you won't get one until you're a junior or senior.

im in lovett!

oh believe me they'll show you Martel heritage once you get to oweek.

Here's a link to oweek orientation.http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~oweek/new_fam_intro.html The individual college themes are probably on the individual college websites, which sometimes don't work during the summer (down for repairs or something).
BTW, if anyone can pull up the Willy week "prank" where they sold Martel on ebay, it was hysterical!!

hey it took a lot of searching, but I found a lot of info about the floor plan & other stuff... http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~emcguire/C.pdf
