I’m not sure if it’s “tied” to a particular percentile or if it’s just coincidence. Looks like 203 last year was the lowest tier of the 97th percentile, but I honestly don’t know if that’s what drives the commended cutoff or not.

Just got an email from my 10th grade daughter, she got a 214 in Texas. I think she has a good shot for NM next year:-)

221 Kansas, up from 180 last year

187 in Jersey, 91st percentile.

Maryland, 233 combined; 75 reading, 80 math, 78 writing (18seomthing 9th grade, 204 10th)
BTW, on the psat score report it says something about 55000 students moving ahead out of 1.5 million (3.5+%). I thought they used a cutoff for each state, not for the country. What’s going on?

usamo…The 55,000 or so are considered “top scorers” in the nation, and most of those will end up getting Commended status from NM. The top 16,000-ish will be designated NM Semi-finalists in September of next year based on state-by-state cutoff scores. The vast majority (15,000-ish) of NMSFs will advance to NMF status if they complete the application package their school will receive in September and fulfill all the requirements (qualifying SAT score, essay, transcript with minimal/no "C"s, no disciplinary issues, etc.).

There is a stickied thread at the top of the NM forum that will probably answer most of the questions you have about timelines, requirements for advancement, etc.

Congrats on a fantastic score!! You are well above the cutoff for MD (well above the cutoff for any state actually).

233: 80 cr&w, 73 m;
mn.

216 in FL. Do you guys think that will make the cutoff?

216 in fl should make it this year. Last year’s score increased from +2 to +5 for many states from the previous years and marked a decade high for a few, making the impression that last year’s test was probably easier than previous ones. Chances are this years cutoff scores decrease abit from 2014. Also generally speaking one pattern I noticed was that scores often increase a couple of points in all states one year and then decrease a couple of points the following year and so on.

Child: 223 in FL, 99 percentile, up from 188 as a Sophomore. We are all very happy.

NH 207…a bit bummed. 68 M, 68 CR and 71 W. Do you think I’ll get commended status at least

NJ, 201, 96th percentile
69 CR, 70 M, 62 W

CO, 219, 99th percentile 75 CR, 65 M, 78 W

226, NJ, 99th percentile.
76 CR, 70 M, 80 W.
Last year, I think the cutoff was 224, so I hope I made it :)

Nebraska 209
Nevada 212
New Hampshire 214
New Jersey 224
New Mexico 210
New York 219
North Carolina 215
North Dakota 204 - [National Merit Scholarships](http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html)

So yes, you’ll get commended (the commended cutoff is 3.667% of top PSAT junior scorers, and a 207 is a 98% I believe, so you’re set), but most likely not semifinalist…

TX
233, 99th percentile
CR 75, M 80, WS 78

Typical, how confident are you feeling about that 220? My son also has a 220 here in PA, and I’m really hoping it’s enough. Given the +3 rise last year, it doesn’t feel like a sure thing.

Posting on behalf of brother: PA, 217
I really hope he makes it past the cutoff for semifinalist. Last year it was exactly 217 lol

Me: 240, MA

My girlfriend: 240, MA

akashaka, I’m thinking that chances are very good in PA. My daughter has a 217 here as well. PAmom, 220 as a cutoff seems really unlikely. I think that you’ll be well-above what’s needed.
