W 700 (69 MC 9 Essay)

Very pleased for her, she is done with this test!

I don’t know about that study aid, but I used Barron’s for math 2, which I think is good because its practice tests reflect the actual test questions pretty well.
don’t know about barraon’s sat i math though

2340
CR: 790
M: 750
W: 800
Essay: 10

Up 370 points from last time.

1920!! terrible on writing-560

730 reading
630 math it’s a miracle

Leicester- DEFINITELY. I used Dr. Chungs starting my winter break (January 10th) right up till the night before the test. My first SAT practice test( and all the ones before using Chungs) math scores were ALWAYS under 700. My score for the January Test was a 750. The book is a bit pricey, but SO worth it.

Second time taking the SAT.

CR 690
M 710
W 790

2190 this time, 2220 superscore (740 M instead). I’ll take it (even though the CR could be higher…)!

Congrats to everybody getting such amazing scores!

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on college confidential, so please don’t judge me! I took the Jan SAT and was not really satisfied with my score. This was my second sitting because my first was just an experimental thing (understand what it looks like). After comparing my scores, I noticed I improved well in the math and writing area, but reading!!! I improved 20 points on the reading section. I was just wondering if any of you experts can help me find a successful critical reading strategy or a book recommendation. I am even willing to try a prep program! It’s been a rough ride and congrats to all those with the awesome scores!

Reading: 540
Math: 670
Writing: 640 (10 Essay)

To study for Critical Reading, read
Try doing passages in under the allowed time. Buy the Collegeboard’s 2nd edition Official SAT study guide and practice from there. Also, if you can, get Kaplan’s prep book as well- it helped me get a 770 last Jan.

First time: 2040

CR 610 :frowning:
M: 710
W: 720 (66 MC 11 Essay)

I did far worse in CR than I expected (I got a 680 on the PSAT). Is it possible for me to get CR up to 700 by May?

@Sabra0627 I just recently got Dr. Chung’s (but haven’t used it yet) and I was wondering how you used the book. Are the tips helpful or did you only use the practice tests?

I already tried the BB and the “under the time”, but I guess reading isn’t my thing!

To all those who have a weakness in CR-
What aspect of the test do you find hard? The time limit? The boring passages? Inference questions? Vocabulary? There are specific things you can do to brush up on each part, and I’d be happy to help.

^^^ Inference, questions involving the authors opinion …Thanks!

First time taking it:

HPYSM HERE I COME!!!

Alright. First try eliminating answer choices until you get down to two or three. Then, divide each choice into three parts, and make sure each is solidly backed up in the passage. Sometimes, a keyword is all it takes to make an answer choice false.
For the main idea questions, there are three places you should look carefully- the end of the intro paragraph (where the topic sentence usually is), the first sentence of each supporting paragraph, and the conclusion. Read the passage like it is an essay, not a test.

Probably the boring passages and the inference questions.

how did you get the same score as the other person if you got an 11 on your essay and they got 10?

Sky- Since I was crunched for time (less than a month) I devoted at least 7 hours a week to going over ALL the tips in depth and fully understanding each example that was given. Dr. Chung’s is ONLY useful, and I really emphasize the ONLY, if you have been scoring over 650 and want to break that 700/750 mark. Anyways, after all the tips, I only had 2 weeks left to prepare. Thus, I took three TIMED practice tests from the Chung’s book in order to see how I would do. (Your scaled scores for Chung will be much lower than your actual one because his tests are SOO much harder.) Then, I reviewed ALL the answers, especially the ones that you GUESSED ON, not just the ones that you did not know. Finally, take an official practice sat. TONS are available on CC if you look around. For The first practice test I ever took I got a 620 on math. Then, on the very first official one I took I got a 740. I got a 750 on the January SAT.
To recap: Go over all tips in depth. Circle the ones that you REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND.
Second: Go over the circled ones. Do 3 practice tests uinder timed conditions.
Third: Go over circled ones again.
Fourth: Take an official practice test (additionally, you should take one before you start dr. chungs so that you can measure your improvment) (JUST MATH SECTION) and see your exact scaled score.
Fifth: Look for common errors (or any errors) and find the corresponding tip in chungs. It worked for me (750!!!) (and I am HORRIBLE at sat math) so it can work for anyone.
PM me if you need any help or advice.

Thanks @sg12909

To fend off the boredom, keep circling and bracketing phrases that pop out at you, like topic sentences and keywords. Some people suggest taking notes, but I think it’s a waste of time. I actually never get bored during the SAT- too much adrenaline.

Thanks so much for the advice Sabra! Congratulations on your 750!
@emilyboss I don’t think I scored the same as anyone else. Which post are you referencing?
