Congrats on your scores!
What study aid, etc., do you guys recommend for studying SAT Writing? that’s my worst section. Thanks

For the writing section, it’s not good to learn rules- rather, learn the tips for quickly spotting errors. There are numerous resources, but I liked the Kaplan prep book. Some people say not to obsess over the essay, but it’s important to try to get a 10- my January scores just came in, and I got a perfect 80 on the multiple choice, but only an 8 on the essay, which totaled to a 760 composite. Just two more points on the essay could have gotten me a perfect score sigh.

Writing: 780 (Essay - Perfect 12!!)
Math: 770
Reading: …650…

2200

Super bummed about my reading score, and not as pleased with math as I could be. Definitely retaking it! Aiming for a 2350ish… which will be incredible difficult… But I am excited about the perfect 12 on the essay!

I literally DREAM of the day I can post on here saying “2400” or “36!” and the hardest thing in the world is to know that it’s probably not going to happen. I hate being a perfectionist! :)

First SAT:

CR: 650
Math: 640
Writing: 640
Total: 1930

I’m content with it. I really wished that I did better but considering the fact that I didn’t check any of my answers, and I bombed all of my practice Math sections, this is pretty great!

I seriously wish I did better on the essay (only a 9 :() but that was definitely because I went in with no practice on the essay. Better luck next time, but I’m fairly content. I’ll retake it in September.

@Latuza- I got an 800 in writing, perfect on multiple choice and 11 on the essay. I took a practice course where we stressed learning the grammar behind all of the errors. A lot of the errors don’t really jump out, so it’s good to know what errors the college board includes because you’ll be specifically looking for them. If you don’t take a course, get a book and just do section after section, and hopefully you’ll start to see the patterns. I recommend the blue book the most because the format matches the test exactly and after working out of the blue book, I felt odd using other test books. If you can do perfectly on the MC, you really don’t need to worry about the essay so much, because a 9 or 10 (I think) is enough for an 800.

My score:
690 CR (Grrr… Had this one coming!)
750 Math (Really? The only SAT math questions I ever miss are on my actual test?)
800 Writing (80 MC, 11 Essay, pretty satisfied as I don’t usually do this well, but I guess I was in the zone or just got lucky-- not that I guessed on anything! )

Will be retaking in March for a 2300+

2nd time:
CR: 730
M: 700
W: 700
Total: 2130

I’m quite discouraged, especially since everyone here seems to have great scores.
I usually got above 2200 on practice tests, but bombed this test.
I’m planning to take the SAT on October again…do you think I can increase my SAT scores by then???

690 CR
770 Math
800 Writing - 80 MC - 10 Essay

I don’t really want to retake only because critical reading has always been my weakest and I’m not sure I have the motivation to study more in depth for it.

ARRGGH!!! I got a 2170,: 710,710,750… (72 mc, 10 e), but judging from the different wr scores received, I could have received a 780(bumping me up to the 2200’s) if I only hadn’t changed my mind on the last writing question, because I think a 73-74 mc was a 780 w/ a 10 essay. darn it!!! should I retake for a fourth time? ive already taken it thrice

2290 - first time
790 CR
770 M
730 W - 75 MC - 8 Essay

I’m super happy with the overall score, but I’ll definitely take it again. There’s definitely room for improvement in both sections of the writing (maybe above 750) and I could shoot for 800’s in the CR and math, I’m so close. I’ll definitely sign up for tutoring this time, instead of just relying on the one SAT second edition book. Anyone have more book recs, like for me to use supplementally to tutoring?

First time (sophomore):

CR: 730
M: 800
W: 720 (75 MC and 8 essay)

Total: 2250

I’m actually really disappointed in my CR score. In the 3 practice tests (from BB) I did before the SAT, I scored 780, 800, 800. And I’m really mad about my essay score. If only I got a 10, then I would have gotten 770, which would put me at 2300.

I’m not sure if I should retake…probably will.

2250 Second and Last time!

CR:770 (Really liked the passages)
W: 750 (72 MC 10 Essay)
M: 730 (Prob Missed 2 and Skipped 1)

And an open message to all who lament their scores: Firstly, you can usually always try again and improve. Secondly, I would imagine your score is already fine. My first test I had a 1950, which I thought was unimpressive, and I had many students whom I went to school with be amazed and wondered how I got such a high score. Now as I type here with a 2250, I realize that any score you get is good. Most likely it was the best you could do at the time. Thirdly, you are incredible no matter what score you get, and do not let anyone tell you other wise. This is a hard test and few truly score 2400, 2300, 2200 etc. CC happens to be a cornucopia of high achieving students; generally the real world is much more normal So never stop reaching for the stars, and never stop shooting for that 2400, but don’t lose sight that you are amazing and that this test is only that. There are much more important things in life. Like living your life. Never stop trying, and never stop dreaming.

I got a 710 on SAT 2 Math Level 1, but decide to retake it in my senior year.

Took it this year as a sophomore in Jan.

I got 660 CR, 660 math, 630 writing because I got a 7 on my essay.

1950 overall…

On all the practice tests I’ve taken (I’ve taken about 25) the lowest essay score I got was 8 but I always got mostly 10, sometimes 9, and occasionally 12. I felt like I did well on this test’s essay so I don’t understand how I got a 7 I guess I’m taking the March test :/

Math: 750
Writing: 750 (10 Essay)
CR: 610
Total: 2110

Looking to improve critical reading to at least 700 for next time and hopefully get better scores in writing and math, looking for 2250-2300

2010
math-740
reading-650
writing -620
First SAT test

I dont know what happened with reading and writing… I just ****ed it up oh well bye bye Georgia Tech :/

Could people please reply to this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/singapore/1461107-sat-scores.html as you can see I am quite depressed lol.

2330! although my cr could be higher
800(M)
800(W) MC(80) essay(10)
730(CR)

The USA SAT curves:

Math: harsh (beyond 1 standard deviation (-1 is 770, usual is 780))
Writing: average generous to generous (-2 MC 10 essay is 780)
Critical Reading: very harsh (beyond 1 standard deviation (65 MC is usually 800 but it was 790 this time. I know this because I’m fairly sure I got 2 wrong on MC and omitted none, so I got 65 MC))

Hi I am a new member on CC.
My january scores:
CR 670
M 770
W 700
E: 8
Total: 2140
I really want to get 2300 on the march test (I am already registered)
I can devote 2-3 hours every day towards SAT. On the weekends, I can devote even more.
Do you think it’s possible for me to get 2300?

Any advice on improving W and CR score?

P.S. poohbear5 said: “W 720 (Essay:8 MC:72)”
I got the same MC 72 and E: 8 but I got 700…
Is it different for everyone or…?
Sorry for the questions. This is my first SAT

“I can devote 2-3 hours every day towards SAT.”

For God’s sake, don’t.

It’s not really that difficult a test, and there are better and more impressive things you could be doing with your time.

The reason you got a different score with the same MC and essay is because you took a different version.
