Potential B on Summer College Class

I'm taking Precalc at a university over the summer (I'm a rising HS Junior) and it's a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. The teacher is rough and the material is a lot higher up than what I'm prepared for. However, I am happy with the class because I love the challenge and it is so much better than being bored in a HS class. So if I were to get a B on the class how bad would it look on my college application (going for Ivy League). Can I just write it myself as a "P" as in pass? Because as far as I know the only thing that I'd have to send into colleges regarding this class is a note on the summer section of my app and I could just put the class that I was taking and a "Pass". Is this correct?

Thanks!!

You are taking college classes as a high school student; they are supposed to be hard. There is nothing wrong with a B in general, let alone as a supplementary grade during the summer. Just put it down as what you got.

If you try to disguise it and colleges somehow find out or become curious as to why you didn’t report a letter grade, they will view you as dishonest. That is worse than any B.

do the grades you get in these classes appear on your college transcript at all, when you enter college? would they factor into your college GPA?

^ Not if you don’t use them for college credit…and you cannot do at most Ivy League schools. Thank you for your help Dwight. However, I would not be being dishonest. A lot of college courses can be taken P/D/F so I would think that listing it as P would not be dishonest or problematic. However, I’m not really sure on this so maybe you are right…

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Bump… 10 char

No you can’t because you have to send a college transcript. Take a look at the CA:

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/DownloadForms.aspx

If you don’t want to take the chance of receiving a B and haven’t passed the deadline, change the class to P/noP grading.

Do you HAVE to send in scores? How would they even know if you took classes?

I don’t get this. Are you taking this course as dual enrollment? Are you hoping colleges see you’re “testing” yourself by taking rigorous courses? If those are answered “yes”, then why don’t you want to have a transcript sent?

I was in a summer college program the end of my junior year of HS with Syracuse University. I earned 6 credits but I never sent any transcripts to the schools I was applying too. The only people who know that I actually have credits is Syracuse because the program was free. So I have no fin-aid or anything attached to my name that would get me in trouble.

But in your case if you mentioned that you took a college course, you must send the transcript.

I agree with entomom…get the grading option changed.
What you can’t do is claim a B is a P…it is not.

UHHH getting a B isn’t good. If it is at one of those summer schools at a prestigious university, where they INFLATE grades like crazy in the summer compared to grades given out in the school year, it won’t look too great.

Fix it.

^ No it’s not one of those college camps with inflated grades…it’s an actual college class that I am taking with actual college students (I’m the only HS)
