Hi im a junior right now and i am planning to take the sats in march/april.
I got a 161 on my psats without any studying.
Is there any possible way i can increase my score to a 2200 on my actual sats.
Any recomendations?

study

yes, I’m being serious.

I found the online study program college board offers very helpful. Its a bit expensive, but no more than if you took the SAT twice (so if you only have to take the test once because you scored well, it pays for itself). Also, staying after with English and math teachers and working through practice tests is good, no one can explain answers better than a teacher. Also, for vocab get a SAT vocab practice app (there free). Finally, take tons of practice tests at every stage of the game. Near the end, do one or two in single, timed sitting. Its a lot of work, but you can bring your grades up. My first practice SAT I scored in the 1900s, but after a couple of weeks of practice I got a 2220 including a perfect writing score on the actual test.

PS I love this book called the underground guide to the SAT, its full of tips and tricks and is written by kids who got 2400s.

PPS If SAT turns out not to be your thing, take the ACT, I found it easier and more related to school, although the timing is harder.

To be honest, raising your score from 161 to 2200 is highly unlikely, even if you do study a lot. You can certainly raise your score significant amounts, perhaps over 2000, but score increases that large are very rare. However, it has been done before.

Despite what many people say, it’s definitely possible. I scored around 161 my sophomore year, and 190 junior year. I ended up getting a 2310 in October after lots of studying.

You can do it. Study hard.

191 on my sophomore psat (189 junior year lol); 2190 on the sat (770 cr/650 m/770 w), 2250 superscore (800 cr/680 m/770 w), no prep for any of those sittings. my score isn’t that great, so take this with a grain of salt:

it’s definitely possible. just be sure to familiarize yourself with the sat format and you’ll be fine. if you really need to prepare, then i’d definitely suggest doing so during the summer [or sooner if you can arrange it]. you’re asking for a pretty dramatic increase, but just study hard and you should do a lot better. just be sure not to be disappointed if you don’t reach your goal the first time. continuecontinuecontinue and you’ll make it. good luck.
