Hi guys, I was going to call FSU tomorrow to see if I can find out more information, but I figured I'd try posting here too.

Basically, it took a long time for my family and I to work out which school was best for me to go to financially and FSU ended up being my decision. The problem with this is that I just turned in my housing stuff two days ago (everything is due today) and my priority number is horrible (7,250). I heard that FSU can only house like 5, 400 or so freshman, so now I'm concerned because it seems like a lot of people would have to drop out for me to get housing. Am I right to be concerned? Also, does the fact that I'm in the Honors program help me at all?

Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated!

FSU will tell you if they aren’t going to be able to house you. You aren’t allowed out of your contract just because you get a bad priority number, unless of course FSU can’t house you.

FSU has a lot of people drop out. Never underestimate how many people forget to send in their deposit, or forget to send in their parent signatures, or even just don’t end up attending FSU. Typically around 7500 is where the cutoff is under FSU’s new rules that make it more difficult to terminate your contract (my freshman year, priority numbers over 9000 got housing). You’ll get housing somewhere on campus.

There really isn’t any impact at that point from being in Honors. The odds that there’s even a slot in Gilchrist or Landis when the system places students with a priority number above 7000 is miniscule.

If you’re worried about getting housing, you can always apply to a living-learning community. The priority deadline has already passed but it would likely end up getting you a spot as an alternate if a spot opened up (many apply to be part of multiple LLCs, so when they get accepted to more than 1, and have to select which one, their spots in other LLCs open up).

FSU Housing has a great Facebook page, and they are very responsive to questions posted there. According to a recent Post, they anticipate having housing available for numbers into 8,000 - 9,000. Will you get your first choice? Not unless it’s a traditional dorm, but I’m pretty sure you will get housing of some kind on campus with that number.
