Potential UPenn Transfer Student Looking for Advice (Ideally from Successful Transfers)

Hey y’all!

So I’m looking to eventually transfer into UPenn’s nursing program with an associate’s degree in nursing from a community college; I’m currently 3/4ths finished with the first of my two cc years (current college gpa is 3.95).

When I finished high school, I had an unimpressive 1180 SAT score; I’ve managed to raise that score to 1490 through practice, but am aiming to score at least 1550. I haven’t really plateaued, but am wondering if there is any advice that anyone could give me that might help me in some way (not just advice that could help raise my SAT score, but also my overall chances of getting into UPenn nursing).

Specifically:

Should I maybe take a biology and/or chemistry subject test?

What kind of college extracurriculars (extracurriculars in the broadest sense) might make me a more appealing nursing candidate?

How did you personally practice to break at least 1500 on the SAT?

How did you practice to break 750 in reading/writing? (Writing is insanely easy for me…reading, not so much…)

If I understand, you are a second year college/nursing student planning to take the SAT for transfer admission to Penn’s nursing program ? If so, I don’t think that SAT scores taken while one is in college will be considered in the transfer admissions process.

P.S. However, I am not familiar with the transfer process in the nursing school world.

The link above is actually taken from this website. I couldn’t imagine why any college wouldn’t accept an SAT score obtained during college, as that might effectively exclude any students who hadn’t taken an SAT/ACT in high school from transferring while in college.

I usually hear that while colleges that one is looking to transfer into will usually place more weight on college grades than standardized test scores (since college grades are what standardized test scores aim to predict), it is still important for one to have an SAT/ACT score consistent with a specific college’s average.

If you can find a source (preferably from UPenn’s official website) that states that SAT/ACT scores acquired in college are not considered in transfer admissions, I would be very grateful, as I do not like the idea of going through the trouble of raising my scores only to discover they don’t count (though I highly doubt this would be the case).

Thank you for your feedback!

If I were you, I’d email admissions and ask. I can’t imagine they give any weight to SAT/ACT taken as a college student.
