My precalc teacher from junior year was not very good tbh. I had to teach myself a lot from the textbook. I have Calc BC this year and I have him for it (first year teaching it). The other teacher is supposedly some amazing teacher (got teacher of the year award from the graduating seniors). his class is full tho and I would have to plead to him to let me into his full class. do you think I should? i don't want to come off as picky or a suckup or someone who criticizes teachers.

you can either try to switch into his class, or you could seek help from him on topis you struggle with. You can also try to be switched into his class for second semester after you see how first semester goes.

thanks! anyone else?! please.

Ask him to be switched into your class. Theres nothing worse than having a teacher that can’t teach AND you don’t like. Especially for class like Calc.

thanks everyone that answered.

At my school anyway, there is absolutely no way that you will get your schedule changed because you’re not happy with the teacher. Why are you so special? If the teacher is well known as being lousy then pretty much everyone would naturally want the amazing one. I don’t understand why you think that you should have the amazing teacher when the others in your class can’t.

@ Robodl95

Well it’s not your school now is it? I’m not saying I’m special. But a lot of kids at my school request teachers with their counselors, so why should I NOT be entitled to the teacher?

@Robodl95 wouldn’t it make sense then, to fire the bad teacher?

This might be either too late or not viable for you but have you tried getting into a Calculus class in your local community college? I managed to get into a Calc I class in my local CC, though I was very lucky b/c high school students get low priority there compared to veterans and college students.

Anyway, if you self-taught Pre-calc, then I think that 1) you are a good self-studier and 2) if you don’t get in I suggest you self-study. But DO TRY to get in otherwise it may be detrimental to you in terms of college admissions.

It really can’t hurt you to try for a schedule change in teachers. You could put it vaguely and say “conflict of interest” or something. But when it comes to Calc BC, I really don’t think you should just stick with the lesser teacher if there’s another option. If you don’t say anything, the answer’s always going to be no.

I totally agree with Techhexium, if above isn’t an option, community college is a viable option. Although keep in mind depending on where you’re applying, AP might be more likely to earn you credit in college.

Good luck!

Whenever I want my counselors to do something for me, I always ask them to look up my class rank and GPA for me so 1) I can get an update on my GPA and whatnot and 2) they know that I am in the top 1% or so of my class and if anyone was going to deserve this favor, it would be me and the few kids in front of me. You can always try that if you want

Yea I’d definitely ask at least. I have calc as well this year and my teacher is new and there’s another teacher and the lowest grade from last year’s class was a 4 and only 6 people got that. We had our first test today with the new teacher and everyone was completely unprepared. 2 girls left crying because it was so hard…
so yea if you can by all means at least try to switch
