<p>What's the deal with a power allocator that housing requires for a separate microwave and refrigerator? Looks like it costs $50 through UVa. Do we need this and if so, can we get it at Lowe's or Home Depot cheaper?</p>
<p>you can get one if you want but you don't really need one. If you use a surge protector you'll be fine. The fire marshalls will come around in october and check like 20% of the rooms so during that week remove anything that you might get cited for (ie we had an extension cable that wasn't connected through a surge protector).</p>
<p>I was in the alderman dorms last year and they randomly selected a few buildings, mine was one of them, and what they did was inspect a few suites rather than one room per suite.</p>
