maybe its me or has anyone else noticed that when international kids post their stats and ask for evaluations, most people on CC tend to ignore posting their opinions (look at the number of views and the number of posts on their threads).

there are tons of opinions for kids from iowa but none for absolutely freaking brilliant kids from nepal (which isnt to say either of them are superior or anything..)

most international kids just seem to share their opinions on the internation forum.

so do ya'll discriminate?

or do most ppl just not have a good understanding of the international kids educational system etc? (it really isnt that hard to follow- and most int kids go to great lenghts to explain their various schooling system)

or maybe i'm just bored?

which leads me to my next question
ARE AMERICAN KIDS JEALOUS/RESENTFUL THAT INTERNATIONAL KIDS ARE TAKING UP SEATS IN UNIVERSITIES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THEIRS?

btw- i'm international. applied last year... didn't get in anywhere.. now i work in a garage. :D

certainly wasn't the case with me.. got a lot of helpful responses especially in the engineering forum when i needed advice regardin engg colleges.

I think its lack of knowledge about how the system works and also we're not sure how internationals are perceived since some schools give them higher standards. Maybe some kids are resentful but I doubt they'd tell you.

Anoel is correct, I think--international admissions is fairly opaque. Criteria for admission are different for internationals than for citizens. At some places, finances matter, too. I believe most people here at CC have too little experience and too little comparative data to answer such queries with any confidence.

As for jealousy or envy, I'm not sure that's a problem. The number of international students on most campuses is relatively modest, so it's not as if they displace large numbers of students. I think most students applying to competitive schools understand that international students enhance the campus in various ways. I think it would be misleading to read resentment into the lack of response.

I don't think that people on CC discriminate against international students. think about the forums that you could be posting on. You are essentially asking a bunch of high school juniors/ seniors who are just understanding the process and where they fall in to it to evaluate you.

From what I have seen there are a lot of international students who them selves are not well versed on the college admissions process in the U.S. and would be best served instead of asking questions to a lot of faceless posters, begin reading about the process and how international students are evaluated to familiarze them selves. If you think the cost of education is expensive, try the cost of ignorance.

International students are evaluated in their own pool against other international students which is very competitive as for the most art you would be hard pressed to fins a school that accepts 100 international students for the thousands that apply especially at HYPS so you are not taking a spot from any kid who is a U.S. citizen permanent resident.

The educational system varies from city to city and from state to state here in the U.S. and most students can keep up with the changes here. Imagine how varied the3 educational standards are from country to country, if you are looking for an assessment from your peers, they may not be of much help.

with the exception of a small hand full of schools, most schools are not need blind to international students so no matter how good your stats are in the end money talks.

above all if any poster could assess chances with any true certainty, we would not be here posting free on CC but collecting money for our services

Most people who post here are Americans and have no idea about how the international pool works. It would be a waste of time to give odds and advice when we're totally ignorant about the admissions process for internationals.

The best way that internationals can get info is from other internationals.

That said, the international student I helped this year with admission advice has so far been accepted to every school applied to and is getting 1/2 tuition or better. The best schools to apply to for internationals have been listed on this site over and over again.

Many international posters provide their stats which may use differenct criteria than we are accustomed to. Others ask which schools "will accept me with a free ride?"

They are best learning about the process and finding out about the admission process at the schools they are interested in.

On the other hand, if an international is looking for a certain type of school(uni, LAC, city, rural, focus on X program, etc...) cc members can make suggestions and provide feedback.

As a CC-er who frequents the Intel Forum almost obsessively, I've seen quite a few "What are my Chances?" threads there. Even there, sometimes there aren't many replies because the systems are so different from what I'm used to and what others are in. But if they do explain the system well, we're able to give a rough-ish answer. And yep, we usually end with "If you need financial aid, (unless you're applyin' to need-blind schools), your chances decrease significantly." :p

Though, yes, I do get frustrated when intels keep asking over and over and over again about which schools are need-blind or "lots of money/free and is a safety". For the latter, there is not really a school that fits the criteria and for the first, a search could easily come up with the answers!

However, if intels are in schooling systems around the world that use AP or IB, that would make the evaluation a little simpler by all/most of CC-world.

As many have said, it is harder to give advice to international applicants. There are issues about how grades are evaluated and their chance of being accepted and financial aid that I just don't know the answers to.

I think that people don't like international chances threads as much because Internationals tend to sound pretentious in their writing.

"Good afternoon, my name is Raj A. Kapoor. My credentials are quite high, but I am afraid they may not match up to Harvard's standards. Would you please evaluate my exceedingly long list of impressive statistics please.

7.3 Gpa-We have a different system than most American academies. Here is a pointless conversion system that will take up half the screen.

I am concerned about my 2390 Sat Examination. Is this elevated enough for entry into fine American Universities?

I once performed a concert for a special event in Agrabad. My top Indian prep school did it collectively, but here is a essay about how I have changed my life because of my experiences there.

Give me my likelyhood of admission or I shall call you racist. If you don't think my odds are elevated enough, I shall do everything in my power to encite a horrible revenge upon you."

Ok, that was unfairly prejudicial but still. The likelyhood of this fictional person not getting a response is quite elevated. (See, pretentious writing-gets annoying!)
