My Dodmerb just says qualified under “current medical status.” Does that mean I am not even Navigator qualified. My eyes are not that bad. My brother’s eyes were worse than mine and he was navQ. Anyone know?

Don't worry about it. The DoDMERB is only dealing with admission into the academy, your actual PQ/NAVQ won't be determined until much later.

Check out this thread - it deals with eyesight.

A few posts in is a link to the aviation physical requirements.

i'm pretty sure it'll just say "qualified" or "disqualified" or something about a waiver. it wont say whether or not your pq, nq, our cq (commission qualified). qualified is the best it'll tell you, and you'll find out your specific qualification (pq, nq, cq) when you have a physical your junior year

i actually remember mine saying pilot qualified.

(ofcourse this was almost 2 years ago so I could be wrong)

I believe last year was the 1st yr they decided to just put in q or dq. If you are worried about your eye sight for pilot the only thing you need to concern yourself with is if you make the parameters for a waiver. I suggest you go over to United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin and ask under the Dodmerb section. MullenLe works for Dodmerb so he can give you the best definitive answer.

I know with our son who has vision problems he is qualified, but will need eye surgery for UPT (it's not a biggie, many kids get it in their 3rd yr)

it never listed "Pilot Qualified" on there, but did used to say "potenially pilot qualified". in all truth, you'll go through numerous tests (including lots with eyes) starting your 3 dig (sophomore) year, which will then determine your qualification (pilot, nav, or commission)

I know for sure that last year Buckaroo's just said "qualified" and she had no eyesight issues or any other physical issues.

Mine only says qualified. I asked my ALO about it, and he called the Admissions Office (this is his first year as an ALO I believe). The office said that I was PQ. I think that they look at a few basic medical items and determine PQ and NQ (eyesight, height, no heart problems, etc.).

I remember something about this from last year -
As I recall until last year Dodmerb would post if you were PPQ.
DoDMERB no longer makes the PPQ determination.

That's a relief! Thanks.

yea thats what it was, potentially pilot qualified.

All they say now is "Qualified".

There is pilot qualified and commission qualified. The only difference for me is that I wear contacts so obviuosly I don't have perfect vision. This can be changed with PRK, giving a PQ.
