Hate to sound like Captain Obvious, but while there's still time...be sure that you and your kid get flu shots before the audition cycle begins!

I just got clobbered with a brutal back-to-school virus, so the flu popped into my feeble mind. Last year my son came down the flu 3 days before his Big Audition in early December, and while the outcome was fine, it definitely added an unnecessary layer of stress. Immediately after that, I got my flu shot, so at least there was a little less worry about travel during January and February.

Just another thing to add to those already packed calendars. :)

Hmm, good point! Some colleges do provide flu shots; I may encourage my son to go to either student health or walk a few blocks to CVS and git 'er done before auditions for spring shows begin! My daughter got the flu during her exam week, first semester freshman year–a nightmare. Excellent reminder.

Hmmhummm. And make sure they are taking any required allergy medications and stay on top of that! My daughter’s voice can go to crap in a hot minute if she neglects her allergy medication. She had to go on vocal rest her freshman year as a result. :-(

My D is currently at auditions for her high school’s fall play, right now. My husband, my son and I all have some kind of virus we came down with suddenly yesterday. As she was fixing her hair for the audition she kept saying “I am so hot!” So, yeah she’s sick. Let her make it through the auditions!
And yes, we are getting flu shots!! Without a doubt. Thanks for the reminder.

DANG! Excellent point. I don’t do flu shots, never have but EVERY time D has an audition or competition, she suddenly gets sick, scratchy throat, stuffy… I think she works herself emotionally to sickness but a flu shot can’t hurt!

I don’t think it is too early for this year’s flu shot. A family member whose doctor insists on them every year administered one to the individual in question just last week.
