Pre college programs MT

Is the level at CMU MT pre-college program good for kids who have more training/experience than HS shows? There’s no audition required and it’s an expensive and long program so my D wants to make sure she can gets as much as possible out of it…

I know plenty of top talented kids, and those who have MT training beyond doing HS productions, who have attended CMU pre-college! Further, many who have attended, though certainly not all, have gone onto top tier college MT programs. I am pretty sure there will be a range of talent and experience, but including very experienced kids among the participants.

I would not judge it by the fact that there is no audition to get in! That doesn’t mean that very talented kids don’t attend! It simply means there may be a range of talent there. My own child did not go to CMU pre-college. But she did attend a summer program that has no audition to attend (Stagedoor Manor). I’ve observed the talent at Stagedoor Manor over 8 summers, and can confidently say there was a range of talent, but this included a slew of highly talented kids, and many, many went onto top BFA programs, and many have gone onto successful careers, including starring on Broadway, movies, TV…simply not ALL have done so. But many have, and I believe the same will be true at a program like CMU, which again, I know many who attended and they went to excellent BFA programs after that. I imagine your child will get a great deal out of it and won’t be the only very experienced kid attending.

@lano123 Two of my kids have attended the CMU pre-college program; both had more training/experience than just HS shows. In fact, many of their fellow summer classmates had more than just HS experience. Your student will get out of the program what your student puts in. There is not a “show” at the end but there are various ways to see the students perform; there is quite a bit of talent there in the summers. There are also a number of extra offerings/masterclasses available to the kids who choose to take advantage and you get the chance to work with top notch faculty for 6 weeks.
