My daughter will be a
H.S. soph in the fall. She is interested in doing a summer program for kids who might be interested in entering the medical field someday. I (mom) would like a program that has supervision in the dorms.Any suggestions?thanks?

Last year I went to great summer program at Brown University. It was actually called "So You Think You Want to Be a Doctor." I recommend it, check it out.

Thanks so much for the info. It looks great. What grade were you in? Was there any supervision as she is currently in 9th grade.

I took this class last year also, and I was a rising sophomore at the time. You have a lot of freedom while you're there. Every floor has an RA who helps you with whatever you need. Curfew is 11:30 Sun-Thurs and midnight Fri and Sat. You can't leave your floor until 6am. Other than that though, you're pretty much free to go wherever you want and do whatever you want. I did not have any problems though, and only missed my curfew once because I was in my room doing homework and forgot to check in. Most of the kids that attend the program are mature enough to handle the freedom. We were not required to eat in the dining hall, although most did for many meals. Also, we could walk wherever and take any means of transportation to go somewhere. During this particular class, the mornings were lectures from the professor, and he never really noticed if people did not show up. However, in the afternoon we had small groups, and those you always had to be in attendance for. Overall, I highly recommend it. It's a great experience and it gives you a really good idea of what college is like. I also learned a ton about what it's like to be a doctor.
