Hi, I'm applying ED to Penn. Over this past summer however, I did a Pre-College program at Carnegie Mellon and received A's in both classes. Do you think I should send the official transcript to Penn, or simply to unofficial academic record, which has my classes and grades on letter heard paper and all, with a note that says "Official transcript available upon request." The reason for this is because I want Penn to see that I did these classes and did well and consider it towards my admission, but I'm not sure if I want Carnegie Mellon admissions (in case I don't get into Penn, which is entirely possible) to see that I'm sending them somewhere early, that even after I did the Pre-C program they aren't my first choice, and potentially hurt my chances of getting in there. What do you think? Does it matter? Will Penn really insist on the official record?

You should ask which is preferred but I bet it won’t really matter. Penn will probably accept an “unofficial” transcript (ie - a photocopy of the one you have) although for any credit to transfer you would have to send an official transcript. If you need to send them officially, I wouldn’t worry too much about CMU “knowing” where you sent them. If you’re REALLY worried about that - you can request to have several copies of the official transcript sent to your home. So long as you don’t break the seals/open the envelope - that is an official transcript that many schools will accept (but ask!) You could just pop that in the mail to Penn.
