Pre-College Volunteer Work at a medical school....

This summer I plan on volunteering at a medical school....I am going to be a freshman in college.Would I be able to put those hours on my medical school resume?...Would it help me when I apply to that medical school if I had volunteered there?

Yes, you can include those hours (I think)

You have graduated high school. You are a college student. Yes, there will be a slot to put those experiences. As to it helping with admissions at THAT med school…I’d say that would be fairly remote. Now - if you burn the place down , they’ll probably remember you.

Rofl…no I don’t plan on doing that…but my dad’s medical consulant at that medical school is the chair of the biochemistry departments, so hopefully i can get a recommendation when it comes time to apply to that medical school…I don’t even know if that will help any.

From your dad? Or from whatever department you’re volunteering in?

Oh never mind.

Now if your Dad burns down the med school…I’m pretty sure that “Legacy” factor will kick in, too. ;)

no, my dad’s conslutant is the chair of the biochemistry department at the medical school…(my parents are in the medical field)…If the consultant were to write me a LOR, I was hoping it would help me, because the consltant is a chair of a major department at that medical school…

"Dear Admissions Office,

One of my clients has a son whom, on information and belief, I suspect is kind of bright. I don’t care much whether you take him or not but he thought an LOR from a big name would help.

Sincerely,
Big Name"

Can I do my volunteer work during my community college days? Before I transfer? And can it just be at the office of a podiatrist? He’s not actually a M.D. he’s a D.P.M or something I believe.

You can do some of it, but you should continue. And while you can shadow him, you should obviously also try to shadow an MD. (Or, if you’re applying for DO schools, a DO.)

ROFL…lol bmd, I will be working with the consultant when I volunteer at the medical school…hopefully I do well and make a good impression, so I can get a legit LOR…hahah funny letter though…
