I was wondering if Cornell has anything like that? I know one school has one where they keep track of all the volunteer work you do and then when you apply they give you the list of your volunteer hours, plus your comittee letter. They also point you toward volunteer activites and stuff..

Does Cornell have that?

Cornell does have a Pre-Med Advisory Committee and it is called HCEC but it does not keep track of your volunteer activities. Before applying to medical school, they will however ask to you list and give a discription and frequency of volunteer, extracuricullar, clinical experience etc, etc You will also have to write an essay and provide about three letters of recommendation to HCEC, after which a faculty connected to HCEC will interview you in order to write a commitee letter for you.

If you want to get involved with volunteer activites in the ithaca comunity then you can go to public service center at barnes hall and they will provide you with flyers or contact infos.

What type of volunteering is available?

Everything under the sun

Are the activities far away from campus or it varies.

Thanks! Is it easy to actually get the volunteer positions, or (due to the many premeds at Cornell) is it like..you apply and hope to get picked?

The location of the activities vary and the far ones are usually a bus ride away. Getting volunteering positions are easy, especially volunteering in the hospital or nursing homes! Cornell holds a club festival every fall in which different clubs participate. If you attend that festival you will probably find some activity which will interest you!

There's a pre-med club called PATCH that brings in doctors to speak, does volunteer activities and takes a trip to nearby medical school. Check it out when you get here,
