Hello! I got accepted to Gallatin and I want to pursue a pre-med track while doing a Global Health concentration. I applied to Gallatin because I liked the idea of being able to create my own major around Global Health and not having to worry about trying to take a required set of courses. However, since I got into Keck School of Medicine at USC (with an already existing Global Health major there), I am wondering whether Gallatin would still be a good choice. Thus, my question is; is it hard to be on the pre-med track at Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU while creating ones own major? Are there any significant disadvantages associated with not having to complete a set of required courses by the college? And is it even common to be a pre-med at Gallatin? Also, how's the grade deflation/inflation?

Thank you so much, any input would be helpful!!

I am pretty much in same position as you are right now. My top college choices right now are UC Berkeley, UCLA, and NYU Gallatin. I was wondering what pre-med is like (if there is any) at Gallatin. To be honest, I applied to Gallatin without looking too much into it. All I knew was that it seemed to offer a great degree of freedom in what I would want to learn.Though I want to do pre-med, science major did not interest me at all. I wanted to do Global Health as I’ve been to Africa and such.

I’d be very interested to hear from a pre-med Gallatin student as well.

hi! so I just got back from visiting Gallatin during the weekend on the square. I am not sure if you have made your decision as to where you are going to attend college, but I’ll share with something I learned. Apparently, students at Gallatin do very well in the medical school application process. The reason is because not only are their majors very unique, but they have done very well in difficult science courses. Not to mention, if you are also interested in global health like I am, there are so many opportunities to work with well established NGO’s. Lastly, I think the most important thing to note about Gallatin at NYU is that it is GALLATIN at NYU… and not CAS or any other colleges. I think that the experience at Gallatin is significantly different from a typical college experience, even beyond that of CAS. Anyways, you have some great choices so good luck!
