Pre-med at IU

How's the pre-med program at IU? I know the Indiana University system as a good medical school...do they give preference to undergraduates from IU when it comes to admissions?

Also, does anyone know if a large number of IU pre-meds go on to top medical schools (Harvard, Johns Hopkins, etc.)?

heres a link to a website that shows the stats of students who go to med school and if you search IUB undergraduates, theres some profiles of the kids from IU and where they got accepted..

im not sure how good the IU med school is, i just figured it was jsut average nothing crappy but nothin special in my opinion.

FBI, according to US News, IU's medical school is ranked 37. You can see the rankings of other schools here:

Dang...so IU is not so good after all.

It is all how you look at it......I mean if you are going to practice and aren't a competitive kinda person then who cares.....it is easy to get entry.

Hazmat, if you're Yale material, of course IU isn't going to be very appealing to you. If you're not, IU is a great school. Also, many very sucessful doctors that I know feel it's the Medical school and not the college that you attend for pre-med that's important.

I didn't say anything negative.......what I said was know thyself. Some people enter medical school and wish to do research and others don't. Some want to practice in a competitive environment with peer scrutiny and others don't. IU has tended to focus on rural medicine and some schools don't do that either. I made no specific comment about Yale compared to IU.
The lowest rank student in every medical school class is still called Doctor.

Hazmat, my reply was meant for FBI, not you. So sorry. I tried to edit the message, but I guess after 20 minutes, their system doesn't allow for this.

MY BAD!

No problem I was just surprised that you thought I was talking down about your school!! Well I would talk down about Davis but other than that.....hehehe

No, it's not even my school, my son is probably going there in the fall. In other words, blame old age!!! ;-)
