Pre-med at rice

How good is Pre med at rice? Is it cutthroat? At rice, what are the most common majors? Will going to rice for premed look good for admissions to med school?

Hi there. I don’t go to Rice (I’m a senior in hs applying there) nor will I plan on being pre-med, but I found these threads that may be helpful and they are only a couple of years old so the information is most likely still relevant.

OP - have you checked out the Baylor/Rice Medical Scholars program? Are you applying this year or later?

I do not think any program at Rice is “cutthroat”. There is a real sense of community and corroboration with Rice students.

You have to understand that basically it doesn’t matter much about the reputation of the school you attend, in terms of admission to a med school, the question is … are you prepared? How did you do on your MCAT? Rice will certainly prepare you to do well on that.

Premed students here are definitely known to be intense, stressed, and some of the hardest working. However, they definitely do not try to bring others down–so in that way, it’s not cutthroat.

The most popular major is officially psychology. Besides that, I would say biochemistry and mechanical engineering, but I’m not 100% sure–that’s just a guess.

Ya I already applied to the program. I hope I can get it but it is close to impossible hah. If I get in Johns Hopkins, washU, and rice, where would be the best place to attend?

^ that all depends on what you want. no one can answer that question for you, only you. without a doubt you’ll get a good education at any of them.
