how does pre-med at rice compare to JHU/Penn/Northwestern ?

Rice doesn't have a specified "pre-med" program, so I'd say... it really doesn't. But you should check out the Baylor-Rice pre-med program.

Essentially, you apply to this program, get your degree from Rice, and are automatically admitted to Baylor Med School once you graduate. (No MCATs! Hurrah!) It's extreeemely competitive, but it's worth looking into, for sure.

i'm a Rice premed and an officer of Rice's Premed students society.

being a premed here at Rice is great cuz we have the world's largest medical center at our fingertips. as we speak, lots of my friends are at the med center doing some sort of research job or physician shadowing program. others decide they want to take advantage of that big opportunity it many other ways i do not yet know of.

furthermore, Rice consistently sends about 95% of its premed applicants into medical school. one year, 98 / 99 applicants got in (i'm not sure where these numbers came from, but i'm pretty sure somebody from Rice told me this while i was applying myself). really good numbers overall.

other than that, lots of people say that various medical schools in the region like Rice students because they know about the rigorous academic manhandling they put us students through. yes, the workload is heavy, but we all work together to manhandle the problems too.

come here, you're in good hands. cooperative learning system / residential college system basically contributes a great deal.
