These are my top three choices for college and I was wondering which school has the best pre med program. It’s very hard to find reviews and stuff on some of the schools. I know that some of these schools are not predominantly known for pre med but if anyone has any input please feel free to share. They all have pros and cons to them and FSU is completely free for me and Tulane and GW will probably be around the same price to attend) but my education is most important to me. So any advice/experiences/opinions are greatly appreciated.
Would you need to take on debt to attend Tulane or GW? If so, then how much debt would you take on? Would they create a financial hardship for your family?
There are a lot of universities with very good premed programs. Premed classes are going to be very tough at any very good university (including all of the ones that you named).
FSU and Tulane and GW all have medical schools. I think that you might be under-appreciating FSU. Going there for free sounds like a really great opportunity for someone who wants to keep medical school open as a realistic option.
A couple of things:
- Are you a Florida resident? You may want to check out all the medical schools in Florida, to see what the in-state preference is.
- What are your financial resources? Medical school is enormously expensive. You’ll want to minimize undergraduate debt. Here’s an article that refers to average medical school debt and how to reduce it:
https://news.aamc.org/medical-education/article/7-ways-reduce-medical-school-debt/
And the entering class at FSU medical school:

And have you visited all three schools? They are in very different parts of the country(hey, weather is important…) and the campuses of all three are very different.
And while there will may be debate on this, there really aren’t any major universities “better” than others at pre-med. They’ve all got the same classes, and it will be up to you to take advantage of the opportunities provided. It’s all going to start with GPA.
NB: above student list is for UMiami, not FSU.
