Hi guys! I just got accepted into UCI and was hoping if anyone can answer some questions I have about pre-med. I know that for most medical schools, they do not accept AP credit, so does that mean I will have to repeat some of my AP courses in college like Calculus AB and AP Chemistry? I don't really mind repeating them but I also read that I will not be receiving any credit for these classes nor will they be factored into my GPA. If that is this case, how will medical schools know that I have fulfilled their requirements for these classes? Did anyone have this problem when they started UCI? I don't want to move onto the next courses just yet because it has been a while since I last took these classes so I am worried that I will forget a lot of the things I learned. Lastly, do you guys recommend taking writing or humcore classes?

Congrats on your acceptance!
Let me see if I can help somewhat with your questions… I’m a transfer student so some of my circumstances have been different.
You do receive credit for ap calc and ap chem but yes it’s not factored into your gpa. I’m not sure if it’s on the official transcript, but on the unofficial transcript all of your ap tests and scores are listed.
I’ve been told to take the next level of math up from the credit you have received since I had ap calc bc credit. Depending on your major though, the next level of math up may already be a major requirement anyways.
As for ap chem, if you got a 4 or a 5 you can jump directly into chem 1B I believe (second quarter of gchem) but to fulfill professional school requirements you can take chem 1a and it’s lab during the summer or fall. If you don’t feel like you remember a lot of stuff, then I would say take chem 1A again.

From the uci chem department webpage:
Have a score of 4 or 5 on the College Board Advanced Placement Chem Examination? The Chemistry Department will allow students who have earned Chem 1A credit via AP to enroll in SUMMER offerings of Chem 1A at UCI in order to fulfill professional school admission requirements

You will not receive units or grade points in this course, but it will appear on your transcript with a course credit code of L6. The L6 code indicates the following: Repeat of advanced standing or high school course; no credit.

You are encouraged to enroll in Chem H2A-B-C and Chem H2LA-LB-LC, Honors General Chemistry, commencing Fall quarter.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much!! Your response really cleared up a lot of questions.
