Pre Med Students: UVA vs William and Mary

Hello! I’m a current senior and high school and debating between going pre med at UVA vs William & Mary, and was looking for some input about some pros and cons of each school in regards to their approach to the pre-med track.

I think either school could work for you. You will have to do well academically regardless of where you do your undergraduate degree, so you should choose a school where you feel comfortable. I think both produce a fair share of doctors. You should also look at quality of advising and teaching in core sciences.

I have heard of undergraduate programs where pre-med becomes “cutthroat”. I don’t think either one of these schools is in that category.

I have heard both schools have significantly above average medical school admission rates, but this is difficult to validate. I had a doctor friend once tell me the VCU (MCV) dean said the W&M students are, in general, really well prepared for medical school.

I found this for W&M. http://wmpeople.wm.edu/site/page/btsher/handouts . A similar site may exist for UVA, but I couldn’t locate it with a quick search.
