Pre-med (Undergrad) UC Davis v. Irvine v. SB

Out of these three, which undergraduate program would you guys recommend for someone extremely interested in Medicine? UCD? UCI? or UCSB?

Hm. Interesting.

The plot thickens.

Lol, nice detective work.

So are you planning on getting the combined JD MD degree?

lol yea dude nice joke but not really. No but Im interested in both fields but am not sure where I want to go yet so Im exploring both fields.

Actually, it’s not really a joke. There are definitely combined degree programs, I guess for doctors to protect themselves from being sued, or just for interests sake.

ok oregon actually thats a good idea so doctors can defend themselves from the insurance companies. but getting back to the question, do you know the answer?

They’re all fine for medicine or law. You should pick the school that’s the best fit for you. If you like the school and you fit there, then you’re more likely to do well in classes and get the high grades necessary for successful application to highly selective graduate programs.

lol, MD/JD programs are not so doctors can “protect themselves”, that would be silly.

Doctors protect themselves by hiring lawyers, not by being lawyers.

MD/JD’s have very isolated uses: politics and certain kinds of entrepreneurship, but mostly academia. The vast majority of MD/JD’s are career-switchers, not joint-degree students.

thanks for the responses. However, which is considered the “better” school? On the U.S. News and World Report, they are all ranked the same.

Well depends what you want.

I am only familiar with the USCB and UCI campus.

UCSB is more geared towards engineering/alot of parties.

UCI have many asians and geared towards pre-med.

Both have alot of things to do in the area.

My suggestion?
(1) Go to google.com
(2) Type in google books
(3) Click on the 1st link and type in “College ******* UCI”
(4) You’ll get a little bit of info about each of your three schools.

Good luck

“College ******* UCI” P-r-o-w-l-e-r

Go visit them and decide where you fit the best and where you feel highly motivated to succeed and stay focused. Do you want Cow town? Newport Beach/OC commuter? SB is gorgeous and it really does have that party reputation.

UCI really does have an amazing proportion of Asian names in the bio section. When my kid graduated in bio there were less than 5% names NOT Asian
