The University is organizing a pre-orientation program for international students from September 12th onwards which is three days prior to the commencement of O-week.

International Pre-Orientation is program available to non-U.S. citizens who are currently living abroad. The programming for Pre-Orientation was recommended by current International Students here at the College. This program will cover cultural and academic issues and should help you prepare for your first year in an American College Classroom. Participation is optional.

The program begins on Wednesday, September 12th (This is three days before our domestic students are scheduled to arrive for Opening Day). On September 13th and 14th you would then participate in Pre-Orientation for International Students in which you would meet faculty members, staff and students who are here to help orient you to Chicago and the College. We will focus particularly on life in College and the American classroom, and will also provide you with some time to relax in preparation for New Student Orientation.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to attend this program. Any thoughts?

I think you should go. It sounds informative and fun at the same time.

It sounds good. If you can, try to go. If you haven't spent time in the US or traveled much, then I think you should definitely go. It sounds like a good program.

Is anyone doing that Outward Bound program? I hate outdoors stuff, like hiking and camping, but I'd do it if most students do it, and I can meet a lot of them...

I didn't do it... if you're in Brooklyn and on facebook, join the "UChicago '11-- New York" group. There are a lot of you organizing various meetups all throughout the summer.

As far as the international program goes, do it! You'll be able to meet other international students, get acquainted to living in a different country, and you'll be able to meet one of my good friends, who is working as an International Student Orientation Leader.

Yes, I think I will attend the program. It seems quite interesting and even if it isn't - It definitely can't hurt.

Most people do not attend the Outward Bound programs. They're also quite expensive.

my daughter will attend Pre-orientation for international student programm too. I just hope the three days program will not be too packed , so we have time to bring her out and purchase stuff needed for her new start on the campus.

how exciting - I'm sure the program will be packed - but I'm also sure you will have time to do all that needs to be done! Make sure she gets a fan - it can get quite warm in september and october. If something gets forgotten - and it always does - it is easy to ship stuff from companies such as bed, bath and beyond.

sounds like a great program, and an excellent excuse to have more O-week.
