Pre-Screens- Has anyone heard?

Congrats entertainersmom!! That was super fast!!

I totally get that. I’ve thought “is he really talented or only talented for this area? Because there isn’t a lot of male competition” or “do I just think he’s talented because he’s mine, am I a stage mom?” LOL. I was more stressed waiting for prescreen results than I am now that he has 2 auditions under his belt and we are waiting for those results!

entertainersmom - congratulations to your son for passing his pre-screen!!! That is great! Our son’s paths apprea very similar…up until the spring of his junior year my son was heading the pre-med route. He was always in shows in the community and had taken voice lessons for a number of years but had never expressed an interest in pursuing MT in college until then! He told us it was always in the back of his mind but a year with a regional performance group got him thinking that he could possible do something he LOVED for a living! He is now pursuing his dream at a fantastic school and loving every moment of it. May your son find the same excitement in the process as mine did! Best of luck and break a leg!!! Your son is on his way!!!

“appear” too bad I type faster than I read! LOL

Congrats on the prescreen passes!!! Yee Haw!!!

Thanks MTMajorCook!

My son is still at rehearsal as it is show week for the school play, so he doesn’t even know yet. He has yet to send in the pre-screen for Pace and Coastal Carolina. I appreciate the support of our MT/Acting group here on CC so much.

Congrats, entertainersmom, to you and your son! We definitely had that same sense of relief and validation when mine passed the Otterbein prescreen last year. Do you know where/when your boy will audition (i.e., in Westerville or at Unifieds)?

Thanks to everyone!

Times3 - He will most likely audition in Chicago. He is going to both NYC and Chicago Unifieds, but I’m leery of scheduling too much in NYC because his time there will be so limited.

MT17WSU - My son was also thinking about MT but said he thought I would flip! I already knew the academic path (thought he would go into neuroscience!) was a no go when it seemed he would be a Jazz Studies Major (drumset), so it was easier for me to get on the MT train when he let his true desire be known.

Let’s just say the first time I even heard the term BFA - Musical Theatre was on May 1st of this year when I e-mailed my S’s vocal director asking him for college advice. It’s been a whirlwind since that day. Trust me…I have learned so much about this is so little time and am extremely grateful for this site and all the wonderful people who share so willingly. I intend to pay it forward.

Congrats entertainersmom! I too know that sense of “maybe I’m not just a crazy, proud mama” every time D passes a prescreen or lands a role. The highs and lows are crazy for the kids but they do seem to take it better than we parents do. Sounds like your S is well on his way, enjoy the ride!

bisouu - If you are looking for a list of schools with and without pre-screens, check the post on the “Important” list at the top of the MT forum, Big List of MT Programs by Type. Any school with an * indicates pre-screen. The list is only as good as other parents who update it, so you should always double-check on the school’s website. However, if there is an *, you can be pretty sure there is a pre-screen needed.

Has anyone heard from Ithaca MT Prescreens for Chicago Unifieds?

Nothing from Ithaca yet - not auditioning at Chicago unifieds but early February and no word from them yet.

Good News! Ithaca prescreen passed! Bad news…D has too many things scheduled for Feb 3rd at Unifieds…time to work on that schedule.

Frazzled!!! CONGRATS

Hey Frazzled! My D also got word that she passed the Ithaca prescreen today! I had to call to change when she was auditioning and they were VERY accommodating - only took about 5 minutes! Congrats!!

kategrizz’s D - WTG!!

It is good to know they were accommodating, I have to sit down with everything and map it out over the weekend. I still don’t have the exact times for Otterbein, Rider or Ball State. Monday has definitely become too crowded so something has got to give.

We got a confirmed time from ball state. Still waiting for a confirmation from Otterbein, but I do know the date and that it will be morning. Rider isn’t on our list, so I can’t help you there! I figure this just lets you know who to follow up with and what info you might be able to get!

Yay Frazzled and kategrizz!!!

Scheduling…seems like one mountain top is reached only to find another mountain to climb.

My son has not heard from Ball State for a time, but the date he was given is filling up with other auditions. Kategrizz, when did you receive a time for Ball State, and was it through e-mail or snail mail?

Congrats!! So word on the street about Ithaca not looking at prescreens until January proved to be false! YAAAYYYY!!!
