Some of the schools require the same songs for both the prescreen and the live audition, others say at least one needs to be the same, so just make sure to read the requirements closely.

Does anyone out there who has experience with their D or S know how strict schools are to having you perform what you did via prescreen? I wonder the reasoning behind this. My D is wanting to change one of her songs, but cannot for 2 schools as they require you to do exactly what you prescreen with… is there a chance to change? or no? and why?

Like everyone says, check the requirements of each school closely. Most of them don’t seem to mind if you change, but you might want to give them a heads up in case their accompanist needs to be alerted. It’s worth a phone call or email. We are considering the same thing - since she made the videos our daughter has found a few songs that she likes better.

Be very careful about changing the pre-screen songs; some of the websites of the schools forbade you to change the songs and required singing the exact same song or songs. Other school websites specifically stated that it was OK to change a song or songs. Other schools may have been silent on the point. If the school’s website doesn’t specifically address the issue, and you want to sing a different song than those submitted on the pre-screen, I would call the school and ask if you’re allowed to sing a different song than you submitted on the pre-screen. No sense spending all that money to fly or drive to a school only to be rejected because you’re perceived as not being able to follow directions!

Just heard from Michigan from an 11/11 pre-screen submission. So I guess they aren’t following the strict 12/23 notification guideline they posted. It was a Yes, but don’t tell anybody because I’m supposed to be on a gag-order…

Just heard from Michigan, it’s a yes for Feb. 2&3 chicago unifieds!

Congrats to the Michigan passes!!!

LOL @ MTMommaJAA!! I won’t tell if you won’t!!

Congrats!

Great just moved on from sweating over a decision only to be right back in the thick of it. S is waiting on MI too LOL…ahghggh Where is the lounge in this hotel? I’ll be there if you need me until March!

Yes for Michigan over here too

Just heard from Indiana – it’s a “yes” for my S…ooh, that rhymes!

Did anyone else just not hear from Michigan this evening? I heard of people getting both passes and no’s, so I assume no news isn’t bad news-just worried! I’ll call Monday if I don’t hear anything.

My D just had an invite from Indiana! Yay - last prescreen - CHECK. This seems to be early as well - we weren’t expecting to hear until 12/20.

Yay for all the newest pre-screen yeses!!

SpotConlon, I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating here. Last year, my D was told she would hear from UMich on 11/15. All her friends heard (yes and no), and we heard nothing. We assumed she had not passed. A few days after the 15th, we rec’d an email saying that one professor had not reviewed his/her pile of prescreens, and our failure to hear did NOT mean it was a no. They promised we would hear by Thanksgiving. Hopes renewed. Thanksgiving came and went. We heard nothing. Again. Hopes dashed. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving, my D got an email out of the blue saying, “Congratulations, you have passed the prescreen.” The way UMich did it last year was that they divided the prescreens into groups, and gave each group to different professors to review. Not all of them did it on time. So don’t panic if you haven’t heard. They will get back to you. Good luck. :)

SpotConlon - My D is still waiting for a response from UMich. But she also only sent her prescreen in on 11/30, so she may be at the bottom of the virtual pile.

Still waiting on Indiana. Anyone else??

waiting for IU, Eastman, Juilliard, Yale, CIM, Northwestern, MSM, Rice, and Yale. A majority of the result might be coming in next week?

Aychoi84 sounds like a classical music school list (my son the cellist had a very list 4 years ago) not a musical theater list which is what this site is.

Break a leg with your prescreens!

Bwaybabie -

I’m still waiting on IU too. I’ve heard from several people who have received both positive and negative news. I think that they made the decisions, but haven’t sent them all out since they close early evening on Friday and they didn’t start until around then. I’m expecting an email Tuesday morning when the theatre office reopens. Maybe it was alphabetical(I’m near the end) or just a random order.

monkey13- I remember your story and I’m guessing it is just that different faculty finish at different times or they are doing it in waves. I talked to some friends that haven’t heard either, it just happened to be that the friends I was talking to Friday night all got an email. Thank you for the well wishes! :)
